ok, I have tried the Carb addict's diet, and I have tried calorie cutting...
my habits of eating are the classic way of eating to GAIN weight...
I wake up...rarely am hungry enough to eat breakfast, but force myself to eat something light...then I forget about eating most days until DINNER...and by then I am starving...
I hate depriving myself...
I hate sugar-free NASTY tasting stuff
I like sweets...
I can't motivate myself to exercise...so I need some pushing there...PLEASE PUSH ME THERE..
So a couple of weeks ago, I watched the program "I can make you thin"
Makes Perfect sense to me..
My background : I have always struggled with my weight, EXCEPT before I hit puberty --before that could eat whatever I want...and never gain a pound..
after hit puberty--had 2 eating disorders which caused me to study nutrition ( I know alot about calories and expenditures, and how your body metabolizes different things)
I feel my biggest hold up is EXERCISE, but here's why..I have such a hangup...
Growing up my momma would exercise just as much as an areobics instructor..and she was never little...she lifted some mean weights...and the woman was strong...she also loved areobics..but I never really saw it make a difference...and she always had terrible cellulite on the back of her legs...
ONLY time she lost weight significantly was on the atkin's diet..and I mean she LOST weight..she got so tiny...
I did notice growing up though, my momma starved herself...she would hardly eat..all day and always be on the go...and when she did eat it was late.
I am stubborn...and my boyfriend never complains about my weight..he's always telling me how comfortable I feel...and such...he's not motivating me...and he sabotages any diet, I say I can't eat something
So I'm going with the rules the guy on I can make you thin has stated...
1. When you are hungry eat (I have a habit of thinking my body is burning more calories if I am starving)Never get ravenous, or eat till bloated
2. Eat what you want, and not what you think you should (I have a habit of binge eating--which I have to be careful because of my bulemic history--then I think I should eat only lettuce and carrots the next meal--which leaves me deprived and obsessed for forbidden foods)
3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful (I am usually a rushed eater)
4. When you think you are full stop (I have a habit of getting ravenous hungrily gobbling food down and then feeling bloated and full--typical example : Thanksgiving day, I don't eat all day waiting for the wonderful meal...then when it's time to eat, I hungrily gobble of the delicious food down making sure to have some of at least everything...and stuff myself silly)
so based on the fact I usually do everything EXACTLY opposite to these rules...I think changing my habits to them MIGHT benefit me?
Since I was exposed to radical exercising and feel that is not beneficial since I saw my mom do it...I think the method of doing exercise in spurts will be best for me...
but then again, i sit there and think "how is that going to do anything??? when my mom exercised for hours and never lost weight???"
so I admit I am trapped in that mindset...
so my plan is not to count calories (following those rules should make me eat less) I have failed with this method time and time again...
not to exercise fanatically but to do it in spurts and keep a journal of what I did do..I have a prevention magazine checklist...
Hi there! Welcome! I'm sarah and i try to poke my head in here as often as i can.
I did something for u - i put in your info into the Food Pyramid and selected the plan to gradually move towards a lower weight. Here is the link: James Mom's Food Pyramid
then at least you can print it off and take it to the grocery store and make sure you get things from each category. i try to mainly buy stuff from the outer parts of the grocery store - the fresh stuff.
As for exercise i put that you exercise less than 30 min a day because i didn't know your current exercise patterns. you can set up a new plan for yourself if you are (or plan to) exercising more than that. i love the food pyramid, i think its sensible and healthy. and its not a fad. As for exercising i'd say start walking - or if you are comfortable join a gym, and walk on the treadmill. basically just make that decision that during a certain time every day you will do SOMETHING, whatever it may be, that is active. workout videos are fun too - i like the biggest loser series, they are excellent.
well stick around!!! and GL on your journey to a healthier you!
Welcome to the group! Well first we like to actually see what you are doing. So start up a new log with your name in the title and start charting what you are doing (eating-write it all down, and exercise). Then we can go more of a day by day thing.
Second-You are NOT your mom, what may work or not work for her isn't going to be the same for you. Unfortunatly the cellulite is genetic so you most likely will/have that. (and just so you know, no amount of exercise can take that a way, you can be 100lbs or 500lbs and still have it! )
Third-I like your rules, good starting point! I am a fellow one meal a day girl. (still fall into that some times). Its tough, i think i many actually steal those rules from you LOL. I can't deprive myself, or like most sugar free nasty things (have found a couple I truely like though).
If you find something that is healthy and taste great, post a separate topic for it! We all need to know those things!!!!
fourth-we really don't have rules for this group. Our guideline are chart food/exercise/water (if you are a bad water drinker). We do weight-ins on the 1st and 15th of each month. And if you want people to read and support your log you need to read and support others, no one sided support here. We have a couple girls doing the Weight Watchers diets, some who are doing low-cal/fat, some who are just trying to be healthier. We have weights from 100-300lb range, we got girl who look at a snickers bar and the weight goes to their butt and other who can eat what ever and hardly notice. We are a diverse group!!!!!
So welcome again!
Angela
PS-pictures and signatures. If you go to your control page you can add things to your signature. (IMG code only) if you want someone to make you a siggy then go to the Siggy R Us forum and just ask!
Oh, hi, yes I started a journal, and posted my obviously sucky attempt today...thanks so much...I am going to post some before pictures...I got a flickr acct, just need to figure out how to do it...
I love, love, love your QUOTE.
Also, feel free to steal the rules...they are from that guy I think Paul Mckenna "I can make you thin"
I'm excited you're here, reading through these posts I have lots to say!
First off, whenever you put anything in your siggy use the [img] code. Go to the top of the page where it says "my controls" and you can edit your signature there. If you want a siggy with your photos, etc. like we have there is a board here on JM for siggies and the ladies there will be happy to make you one!
About the stuff with your mom, that's rough. Clearly she didn't have a good relationship with food and exercise and I'm sorry that's rubbed off on you. It sounds to me like she really screwed her metabolism up and that's why she wasn't losing. Her body probably thought she was starving, and coupled with exercising a lot and not giving her body the calories and strength it needs to handle that, it just rebelled and did the opposite - gained. You are NOT your mother though and you can learn healthy eating habits and exercise! About the cellulite, Angela is right... exercise isn't going to get rid of that no matter if you're 300 or 90 pounds, HOWEVER, water CAN!
Here is one of my favorite articles that will help you lose weight and it's not very hard -- it's just about drinking more water! You should ideally drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Here's an article explaining why drinking water is so good for you and why it will help you lose weight; I find it very motivating. (Ignore the weight watchers stuff since that doesn't apply to you, lol) Water Article
I saw the "I can make you thin" show this past Sunday for the first time, DF & I watched it together! Have you been doing the tapping? We've done it a bit, but my thing is... I eat ALL of my feelings, not just my stress ones. Lately it seems my issue is cravings, so I hope I remember to watch next week's episode sine that's what they're dealing with. Who knows if it works, but I think I'd like to watch anyway.
As far as your "rules" go -- I think it's a good start but still too easy to beat yourself up if you break a rule, kwim? I'll watch your food log for a few days before giving more thoughts on that.
Exercise is a tough one... it seems I'm either totally on board with food and exercise is blown or vice versa. Maybe finding things that are fun for you will work better. Think about being a kid... it wasn't called exercise, it was called PLAYING! Maybe you and SO could walk to a park and swing for a little while... it's fun/cute/romantic and EXERCISE that doesn't feel like exercise. Maybe pick up a hula hoop or jump rope to get you started.
It's late & I need to go to bed, but just wanted to pop in and say a few things while your post was fresh in my mind.
yes, exercise does have to be fun for me..my favorite form is dancing, not that "aerobic" dance but the actual put music on and club dance dancing...
yeah, I went and got my son some in line skates, I have a pair of four wheels...I was going to go outside and roller skate with him for a few minutes, but that fell through...when I had to get dinner done, and mess with the dishwasher...
I didn't get to see the tapping thing??? I am most curious about it now..thanks for welcoming me...
my stomach is still sloshing with water, so I am having a hard time wanting to lay down--note to self
drinking 2 glasses of water WHEN FULL in 1 minute is PAINFUL...
About the cellulite, Angela is right... exercise isn't going to get rid of that no matter if you're 300 or 90 pounds, HOWEVER, water CAN![/b]
To an extent it can help make it appear smoother...so can coffee grounds be rubbed into it. But nothing can make it go away....trust me I have looked EVERYWHERE lol.

Meet Shannon our water pusher LOL. She is also a pee on a stick pusher, but we don't have DYWP (drink your water pusher) blinkie for her LOL
The tapping thing was Sunday night's episode of the I can make you thin... where you tap on pressure points to control the want to eat when stressed.
I am a total water pusher, and a total POAS pusher too. I'm a peer pusher!
I'd posted a thread in here sometime back in January about one of my bridal books and the water/cellulite thing... I'm going to go try to find it and bump it!
cool thanks guys...My name is Jennifer--it's in my journal post
Yes, I have heard about the water. I also know there are other reasons why cellulite is stubborn...I study nutrition and health so...
In my mom's case--she had a secret enemy to battle--she did not know she had Hepatitis C until she was well into her 40s. In her case, because of the damage to her liver, her body had an increased tendency to store triglycerides in her fat cells--
in additon insulin resistance and estrogen dominance runs in my family--two factors that cause the body to be stubborn and not want to release fat from cells.
She also did not drink alot of water, because she had nasty well water and had to go to town to get distilled water..
so there were alot of things working against her...as will see in my before picture..(If I can post???).I have a bit of cellulite, but my legs look pretty toned...

Have you been tested for the above and Hep C....do you have any of those issues to take in to account, or are you a lucky one!
tested for which one? The estrogen dominance? Or insulin resistance?
I have read up on both of these are hard to detect, depending on where your levels are at during your cycle. some symptoms I have, are skin tags, and increased pigment in certain areas.
I had a hormonal panel done on me, because of the female hormone problems in my family--they said all my levels looked normal.
I got tested for Hep C as soon as I found out my momma had it--it was negative. But it was nerve wracking waiting for the test results!
I just got to share this---IT'S LONG though--but amazing.
I was planning my whole life based on the results of that Hep C test--while my mom was fighting for her life, I felt selfish thinking about me so much, when she was going through so much--but I had to know.
my mom came through that ordeal beautifully, the doctor was astounded her levels came back at 0 after treatment. She did the interferon treatment as well as herbal liver support--such as Dandelion--(yes that little weed, is one of the most potent liver detoxifiers on the face of the earth), and Milk Thistle-I also saw the woman put Cayenne powder into two large horse capsules and swallow!!!!
She is very much into herbal remedies, and also went for Nursing and almost completed 2X--but 2X she ended up delivering when it was time for finals!!! MOM!!! The last attempt was my sister Bobbie Ann, mom was 42 and was actually delivering the baby during the darn final!! She said after 6 babies--there was no way she could keep her in there--Bobbie was literally falling out.
Anyways, her levels were 0 after treatment, but she soon faced another life threatening disease--the flesh eating disease. Not sure which bacteria caused it, but it started on her shoulder and spread rapidly down her arm, since she had so much nursing, she described it in painstaking detail to me over the phone--I felt helpless 1000 miles from her, but I prayed.
The CDC stepped in and took over her case, and gave her the best doctors and cardiologists available. But before that, she had to do the broad spectrum antibiotics, and it looked like it was just getting worse--
I was awakened late one night--and called a prayer hotline, and prayed for momma's arm. I was told the arm would "live and not die". Called my mom as soon as reasonable and told her. She didn't realize the significance....Later on the next night, I called to check on her...she was in tears...saying they had thought they were going to amputate her arm, earlier, but the CDC stepped in and said no...right after they moved hospitals.
after the oxygen chamber, and all that, the cardiologist said they were afraid it had already affected her heart. And saw peripheral abnormalities. We prayed again. Come to find out, it had not affected her heart...and she was rapidly improving.
The doctor's had her on Psych evaluation though, because she was "talking to the Lord" in her room--the nerve of them.
Anyways, so now here I am enrolled in my CNA certification--on the way, myself, to become a Nurse.
You seem like the Nursey type Angela, outgoing, free-speaking, cute in your ways. I have a friend who is an LPN--and she's just as "Nursey"
Are you an RN? How far did you go in your schooling?
Yep I am a RN. I did L&D, Surgical Floor, and Cardiovascular Telemetry floor. Prior to being a nurse I was a Certified Mental Health Aide, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Certified Doula.
I am glad it all worked out for her!!
wow, that is awesome all the experience you have...a doula too. I had a friend who was a Doula.
Well, that is what I am shooting for an RN. Though I feel overwhelmed right now. Just a little. Seems like I wasn't as stressed when I just wanted to be a medical technologist.

What kind of RN would you like to be? The stress....yeah probably need to get used to that LOL clinicals, then boards, then patients of your own....i think i relaxed about 9 months after working on the floor as an RN....it was when they gave me someone to train, and they asked me a bunch of questions and it clicked....hey I know this stuff LOL
I guess as a graduate of the NICU, it has a certain pull to me?
I was born 2 1/2 months early, and was still born until Neoepinephrine was administered into my heart.
then I lived there for a couple of weeks...
My dad said I fit in the palm of his hand...but I was almost 4 lbs....so I think I was a good size..
yeah, I'm that way too...I spazz out that I don't know anything, and function better, when people are looking up to me and asking questions..it's like it causes me to focus and stay on task...which is wierd, because I hate it when people are focusing on me--it's when I'm focusing on them that I don't notice it.
for example my chem class...I'm always short circuiting that I don't know what I am doing...but my group just naturally allowed me to assume leadership, and they like it...
