I have dealt with thrush tons of times, but never thrush+breastfeeding.
I know to sterilize everything that goes in his mouth: toys, pacis, bottles etc, but what about my boobs???? The nurse told me to wash my nips, but isn't soap bad for them? The doctor didn't see us, I called them and asked if they could phone a prescription to the pharmacy since we were out of town for the day, and I KNOW it is thrush and a yeast infection on his tush. She said "how do you know?" I said "I worked in daycare for nearly ten years- I've seen it all." so anyway, since I didn't talk to the doctor, I didn't think to ask. What in the world should I do about nursing? Should I wash everytime before and after nursing? I know to sanitize my pump and everything, I just don't know about the actual boob.
Is it okay to use pumped milk? I don't have it bad, but I do feel stinging when he eats. Can I use nystatin on my boobs??? What do I do about my boobs??? LOL

I never rinsed my nipples with the vinegar because I was using the cream, but I did cut out sugar and artificial sweeteners for a bit, and it seems to have really helped.
ALso, if you don't normally use nursing pads, start using them now and until the thrush is cleared up, replace them quite a few times a day. Give your nipples lots of air, and don't cover up your nipples unless they are dry. Also, cut back on your sugar.. in drinks and in your foods.
You can use coconut oil on your nipples. Plain yogurt or just open a capsule of probiotics and put that on them. GL. I had it for 6 months and tried everything.
Gentian violet is messy, but works quickly and is effective with thrush. You can also take a probiotic like acidophilus. Go to kellymom.com and search "thrush" and you'll get information on treatments and gentian violet. You can also pop over to the Breastfeeding board because I just answered another post on thrush and I posted more information there.

Thanks everyone! It isn't that bad, because we don't nurse that often anymore so hopefully we'll both be thrush free in a couple of days. I'm trying out all of the suggestions. I dunno where I'd be without you guys!
Oh, and the milk that I pump, is it okay to use?

The recommendation is to only use it if you are using it within a few days of pumping it but not to freeze it. I did freeze mine though and used it without any problems. The first time I had thrush I had it for a long time because I didnt really know what it was - I thought we had latch issues... Anyway I couldnt see throwing out around 100 ozs of milk so I just crossed my fingers and used it.
I hope you have relief really soon, A got it in her mouth at 8 months or so. I used the Blue Gentian Violet stuff after the sugar and dye filled medicine they prescribed did nothing. I used it twice a day for 3 days and it cleared up super fast. I applied it to her cheek by putting a little drop on a q-tip and rubbing it on/in..it is EXTREMELY messy. I wore black tank tops for days. I never got it on my boobs but I was over vigilant about rinsing with probiotic water(acidophilus tablet opened in water) and patting dry between feedings....Oh and I used all our pump supply to which I added an infant probiotic.
Okay, thanks! My pumped milk gets used almost immediately, so I guess no worries then. Thanks again everyone for the advice! It seems to be under control
