What a great story! I just did a presentation for Developmental Psychology on the benefits of Kangaroo Care. I wish I had seen this in time to stick it in there. I know first-hand how much KC can help--both mom and baby.

Aww thanks for sharing! That baby is so tiny. When I see babies in a bed sealed off from the world I wonder how the mother must feel.

I cried too, but I loved it! I remember so well how horrible I felt when I had my preemie Toby, and they told me I wasn't allowed to even touch him for the first day, because it would over-stimulate him, and I couldn't hold him at all until the day after that...and then only once or twice a day. It's heartbreaking to be told you can't hold your own baby! Yay for this mommy for following her instincts.

Wow. What a great read, even though I got teary eyed.

When I had my baby, she was a few weeks early, not a true preemie by any means, but she was small and I spent my day and a half in the hospital holding her as much as i could, even sleeping with her on my chest. The nurses would come in and YELL at me! I would lie and say i was not really asleep, just resting my eyes. I was one of the only women to sleep in with my baby at the hospital.

:lurking: but wanted to add that I also did KC with my baby. She was not premature but the nurses and doctors encouraged both my DF and I to do it for bonding purposes. I am so glad we did. Thanks for posting this, it just warms my heart!

Beautiful just beautiful Did KC at home even though she was a month early she never went to IC...we went home after 4 days and even though she was healthy she slept on me for almost 4 months .....almost every night. She used to be very vocal and very fussy.....sleeping on me is what calmed her down....i didn't even know it was called that, nobody said anything to me. I just followed my instinct ........
