I feel like a dork, but I am due in December and don't have room for four people in our bed. How can I transition my three year old to his own bed without him thinking it is because of the new baby ?

We took months to prepare. We talked about the big girl bed and by the time it arrived she was really excited. She slept in there the entire first week. She went back and forth a lot and I never put any pressure on her.

As it turned out she was feeling clingy around the time when the baby came so she wanted back into the little girl bed (crib next to our bed). My spouse didnt find that to be a good idea so we ended up insisting on the big girl bed but to make the transition easier he started sleeping in there too.

I think that all in all it went quite smoothly. The big girl bed was a familiar place for her even though in the end she was told to go there. Felt bit bad about that but she seemed to adjust just fine.

We got Colin his own big boy bed about 4 months before baby came. I or DH would sleep in there with him. He had no problem with it. I still sleep in there with him most nights, but I think he would be fine alone (I just enjoy being with him!)
