Moms out there who did this with solids, how did you go about it? What were the first few foods you gave the baby?

And how long did you wait before you just started offering small portions of whatever was on your own plate?

We started with a banana cut in quarters lengthwise. This was pretty tricky for her to hold onto though. I think her second food was a potato since that was something I had on my plate at the time. I havent really waited for giving her anything, If it's not too salty or processed I'll let her try it.

DD is still toothless at 8 months but I still give her pretty much everything. I'm too lazy to cook fruit or vegetables most of the time so she gets them raw. Today she spend long time chewing on a piece of paprika/pepper and then I found later that she had chewed everything from inside the skin.

I did this with my son and I'll be doing this with my baby too. DS didn't take any solids consistently until he was around 10 months, and even then it was a hit or miss. We started with veggies (we skip cereals) that we were already eating, I just cooked them longer and mashed them up with a fork. Slowly, I'd start letting him "suck" on other foods. It worked great for him.

I wrote a blog about BLW last August: Cooking with Mrs Sea Monster: Baby Led Weaning

Aiden started with steamed sweet potatoes and zucchini that were cut into long thin sticks. Once Aiden understood chewing and swallowing, I started giving him whatever we were eating that I thought he could handle. We did alter our menus to be more baby friendly for a while. We have no food allergies on either side of the family, so we weren't worried about allergic reactions. The only food my son has issues with is oranges.

Teeth haven't been an issue. DS didn't have any till 7.5 months and then it was just the two. He only has 6 right now and can eat everything we give him.

at 10 months, my son still doesn't really take the food and put in his mouth, he's still in the playing stage. and if i try to feed him anything myself like pieces of avacado or something, it's totally hit or miss if he wants to eat. he's definitely taking his time when it comes to solids....except mango and goat's yogurt. he tends to eat those every time. i'm just going with the flow with him. i dont want to force him into solids if he isn't ready, but i'll keep offering them daily.

We started when L was around 6 months and he chased soft pieces of carrot around his highchair tray. He had a lot of fun learning to get things to his mouth but didn't actually care much for it until around 8 or 9 months. I think it was around 1 1/2 that we started offering him what was on our plate (if it was appropriate), and now he demands it. Good way to make mom and dad more careful about what they eat
