Will you (or did you) put your LO in preschool?
If so, when will/did you start?
How many days per week?
Are you interested in a specific type of school (Waldorf, Montessori, Traditional)?
Will you (or did you) put your LO in preschool? Jake is in preschool atm. the government pays for a year of preschool to encourage every child to go. Harry will go too. If so, when will/did you start? He started when he was 3.5 for 2 sessions a week (a session is 3 hours). I will send harry the january after he turns 3, so he will be 3 years and 1 month, just for 2 days a week. How many days per week? He now goes 5 days a week, 3 hrs a day. Its paid for by the government. Harry will go 2 days at first and then move to 5 days in the following september. Are you interested in a specific type of school (Waldorf, Montessori, Traditional)? I would have liked a montessori school if there was a montessori primary school available to us, but theres not, so I went with traditional as it is in line with how they teach at primary level.

I highly doubt that our kids will attend preschool. I have considered a Montessori-type program, but the more I learn the more I think we will probably homeschool.

Thank you peimum for my amazing siggy
I've been considering preschool, but we haven't decided yet. I'd just go with whatever is the closest to us that I think it suitable for her.
Not sure when we'd do it though.

I want to start sending DS to preschool, but we are still looking for an appropriate one nearby. He's been learning Chinese from his ayi, so we want to find a preschool where English is the dominant language of instruction but Chinese is also partly offered throughout the day (so that he can keep that up). The nearest ones to us are at least four subway stops away, and I don't want to mess with that yet. Also, he's not potty trained yet (he's 3 years and 2 months), so he's not even eligible. We'll probably start him next September (assuming that we can manage to successfully potty train over the summer).
With our nanny leaving, I had considering taking this as an opportunity to start preschool a few hours per day, a few days per week. However, Juliana will only be 2 and I really don't think she's ready. I mean, she may be ok but I think she would cry hysterically at the drop-off and I just don't think I can deal with that if we have another alternative. There is only one preschool here that accepts 2 y/o's that aren't potty trained and it's a Montessori School. It's pretty good but not my favorite. There is a Waldorf School here that I really like but preschool is from 9-1, 3 days per week. They accept kids as soon as they're potty trained. I'm not sure how that schedule would work with my work schedule and finding a nanny, though. There's so much to think about!
We will probably do something part-time when DD is 3, so next fall. I haven't really looked into what's here. I know there is 1 Montessori school in town but we'll probably just do a regular preschool.

Before we moved David went 3 days a week for 3 hours. He loved it! They were very AP for a traditional preschool and his teachers were amazing. It was a lot of play crafts ect. I was so sad to leave before Katelynn had a chance to start.
There's a Japanese Montessori near us that we are interested in. They begin at 18 months for full time, so we will possibly do that. We'll go tour in June and apply after that if it's a good fit. If no, then we already have a list of other places that may work(another Montessori and a Waldorf school as well as a few others). Honeschool is also an option.
This is an issue we are running into right now. Around here, all the kids go to one preschool and getting in is tough (and somewhat time consuming). It is very "education" based and the kids start at age 2 (or close to 3 if they have fall birthdays like my boys). So THREE years of preschool before kindergarten. I hate how learning based they are. I want a "farm" school (for lack of better term) where the basis is experimentation and discovery. But I can't seem to find one anywhere near us. There is a montessori preschool opening about 10 minutes from us next year and that's an option. But it's brand new and I know basically nothing about it. They have not put a lot out there to know much about it. I hope as they come closer to finishing the curriculum, I can tour and see what it is about. The idea intrigues me.
Liam was eligible for the local preschool this coming fall. But we are not sending him. Most kids go two days a week at age two, three days at age three, and five days at age four. It's kind of expensive anyway and we are working on bills right now. So it just seems unnecessary.
I wish I had the balls to homeschool. But I am not dedicated enough and think I would make it worse for my kids!
I've been debating this. I want him to have lots of opportunities for socialization which preschool will give, but I also want to homeschool for the special attention I can give him.
I like the idea of Montessori and Waldorf preschools. Kids learn through experience and play at that age, not rote memorization.
If we do end up sending him to a preschool, I will make sure to supplement him at home too. There's so much kids have to know before kindergarten now.

That sounds like a Waldorf school. We have one about 2 miles away. I also like the Montessori concept.
