UG, in agreement with about everything here! No reason to ever hit a child! It infuriates me to see or hear about it! I was spanked and vowed never to do it to my children and never have, never will.

I agree with you!

We do not spank DD. I was spanked A LOT growing up, and it accomplished nothing. DH and I are on the same page with our parenting values, but when we visit family in Michigan, it's ridiculous. I've actually had family SPANK MY CHILD right infront of me! They thought I wasn't discipling them the "right" way, so they took over. My DD is a little behind on her speech, so she gets very frustrated when we aren't understanding her. She understands us just fine, but has trouble getting across what she wants/needs. I would never spank her for that, or for her emotions.

Yeah! It was one person, very close to me. I couldn't believe it. Who in their right mind would think that's okay? Even if I did agree with spanking, I would never touch someone else's kid!

I am in 100% agreement with everything that has been posted so far here. Spanking makes me angry and very sad. I do judge people who spank. And I totally agree it is an outlet for parents. Anyone who says they spank with control are liars.

I was spanked by my mother as a child. I remember how angry at myself it would make me. I guess in a child's mind that's how I processed it all. I know my mom has guilt over it too. If I even raise my voice with my children she gets mad at me!

It is nice to hear from other moms who feel the same way...seems there are too few of us out there.
