Do you use it? Do you try to use natural kinds?

Now that it is finally warming up here and we are spending a lot more time outside, I have been thinking I need to do something!

We have a sunsuit for Juliana that protects her chest, back, shoulders, and half of her legs. It also has a matching hat that sometimes stays on for up to 5 minutes. I do put sunscreen on her face and encourage her to wear sunglasses. We also try to go out in the sun early in the morning or around 5 - 6 pm so the sun is not at its peak brightness. We don't really have to worry about bugs around here, luckily.

We use Badger sunscreen. I'm thinking of looking for a spray. Still trying to find a natural misquito repellant that works. We are definitely going to be hanging wrist bands from the stroller.

We just put up the pool this weekend, so we're gonna use sunscreen a lot. I use SPF 30 for myself and SPF 100 for Gabe, plus his swimsuit is SPF 50. We use Banana Boat and we shower after pool time. Gabe has my skin, so he'll burn without/with minimal sunscreen, but tan afterward.

I just burnt the crap outta myself at the beach last week (first time in many, many years), so I don't want him to know that kind of irritating pain.

we use spf on him a lot...the sun at this altitude is insane. but the bonus about this altitude is we barely have bugs and it's too dry up here for mosquitoes to want to hang out.

We have SO MANY blackflies and mosquitoes.....the outdoors is unbearable from April to July without bug stuff on. So we use Off. Nothing else works, nothing herbal or natural or whatever. I use it very sparingly on the kids and fortunately the bugs seem to stay away from them better than they do from me.

We just use regular sunblock for kids. We have a spray I really like, I think it's Coppertone. I'm sure it's full of all sorts of crap they shouldn't have on their skin.

We don't use any. Once the sun is strong enough for burning we either go inside or in the shade.

We are huge outdoor people and we use sunblock. I have awful skin that burns really bad so we have no choice. Dont really have a need for bug spray.

We have awful bugs here because we live right on the river. It is insane in the summer. We use Off as well. It's the only thing that actually keeps the bugs off of the kids. Last summer, we didn't use it one evening and were out until around 7pm...I counted no fewer than 20 bites on Liam's legs. I felt so bad! He did not seem too bothered by them...but it was bad. Bugs tend to leave me alone, but attack DH.

We use kids sunblock on the boys. Banana boat something. One that doesn't sting the eyes, Liam is known for rubbing it in his eyes!

We haven't had to deal with too many bugs lately, and we do a sun hat and uv protective shirt combo for DS. I've been looking around for a good sunblock for DS, he is extremely fair and sensitive so he really needs sun protection but most stuff makes him break out.

I'm so glad we haven't had to worry about bugs too much so far. DD reacts HORRIBLY to bug bites. Last September, we were outside one humid, misty night for Sukkot and she got bit no less than 15 times. All of them swelled to the size of half-dollar pancakes (seriously, they were HUGE!) and the one by her eye made her eye swell completely shut for about three days. She has reacted to bug bites in the past, but never to that extent. It was crazy! She had to take Benadryl every 4 hours, around the clock, for 6 days.

It also doesn't help that DD is allergic to citrus and citrus-scented/citrus oil products. So we found Bug Bands - they seem to work. I'm not looking forward to the bugs this summer!

As far as sunscreen goes, we use the Target kids spray-on kind. It seems to work great. For the beach, we use Neutrogena Wet. She hasn't burned once yet in her four years of going to the beach (she wears a rash guard shirt, sunglasses, and a hat).

Last summer we used California Babies sunscreen. Didn't have any issues from it (DS was over 6 months). We lived in the desert, so we didn't have to worry about bugs.
This summer we're both using California Babies again since it worked so well for DS last year. I went to a cloth diaper store last month and picked up some natural bug repellant lotion that we're going to try soon since we're now in the south full of bugs. I had a lot of issues when I visited home (TN) when pregnant with DS, so I'm hoping this will work to keep me bite free this year!

I'm trying to find some that is more natural than what I used to use. I burn very easily and we live where the sun is always shining LOL We use some on DD, too. It gets very hot here, up to 117, during the summer. So, we don't go out until the sun is setting usually.

We haven't had a huge bug problem yet this year. I know summer it will be bad. We usually just use the OFF Clip On. It seems to work for the most part. If bugs are bad we don't stay out too long usually.

For sunscreen we use Coppertone kids or Banana Boat for kids. I like the sunblock face stick. Banana Boat for kids as an all over suncreen with spf100 that I like (we bought spf100's last year for our Disney Vacation).

I've been lax with the sunblock this spring as Kayley is getting older and tends to tan (her dad is native american). I still make sure to do her face though no matter what. When it's summer and the sun is out full blast I will make her wear sunblock. I don't want to find out if she'll burn. (She is blonde with hazel eyes so it's still possible)

As for me I totally burn. I wear sunblock on my face everyday too. My skin is so fair and my eyes are really light. I have to wear sunglasses too. (Hubby is an optician and I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't, lol)
