carlos is 14 months at the end of this month...and his eating is still very hit or miss.
he does nurse quite a few times overnight and nurses maybe 4-5 times throughout the day. i hear all of these moms talking about how their kids eat like pigs and their kids eat everything, etc..(i know, i know, i shouldn't compare, but it's hard)...he eats very small amounts..he'll have a few bites of this and a few bites of that and he's done. he's weighing 22lbs right now and is about 30.5 inches tall.

My son is not normal and eats as much as I do some days. Most toddlers I know pick at their food. Most enjoy grazing. Very few seem to like meals. My son loved food from the start. Other kids aren't too interested in food till 24 months!

Evelyn isn't a big eater. Lately it's a good day if I can get her to eat 1 bite of anything. She nurses constantly still. She's teething badly though and she always stops eating solids for awhile when her teeth come in.

Juliana was hit and miss at Carlos's age, but now she's a lot more hit than miss. Still, she has some days where she eats a lot more than others ... and some days where she wants nothing but raisins ... and some days when she loves broccoli!

DD was hit or miss for a long time, probably closer to two years, i would not worry over it. I kept offering her food, but would not get too worked up over it if she did not eat it. hav eyou read Dr Sear's nutrition book? Healthiest Toddler in the Neighborhood, i highly recommend it.

DS can be a good eater, it depends on the day and what foods he is offered. Lately he likes things that are crunchy or smooth but doesn't like things with in between textures, his favorite foods right now are bacon and prune sqeezey pouches. He also loves butter so I can get him to eat things he normally wouldn't by slathering them in butter. Some days he is a pretty good and adventurous eater and other days he doesn't want to venture out of his comfort zone. When he is teething he has days where he eats next to nothing. I think it's normal for toddlers to be picky and not eat much, I've heard that this behavior tends to peak at around 18 months and then gradually subside, which rings true to me because DS was at his pickiest at about the 18 month mark- I was pretty much pulling my hair out back then dealing with that lol!

thanks, ladies...i keep feeling like the dr is going to tell me he needs to drink pediasure or something. he looks normal and fine to me, but i'm wondering how much he should really be eating at this age. and of course, i worry about vitamins, iron, omegas, etc. i'll keep offering even if he only eats tiny amounts.

Eli is 10 months and I've never been able to get him to take a more than a few bites of anything. But he's still a big boy, and hitting milestones well ahead of time.

My daughter was a big piggie and she developed just the same as Eli. I would assume from my situation that your baby is just more petite, naturally.

It really is hard not to worry sometimes.

Avery is only just shy of 9 months but she is really hit or miss with food. She will eat certain things always that she loves (egg, cherrios, avacado) however she doesn't eat much really.

I wouldn't worry as long as Carlos is still drinking lots of milk, mama's or otherwise :-)

I agree that if you are still BFing he is getting plenty of good nutrition through your milk so you don't need to worry too much. Back when DS was being super picky I started giving him a vitamin with iron in it. Iron was the one I was really concerned about him getting enough of- he probably would have been just fine without it, but it made me feel less stressed just to know he was for sure not gonna end up being anemic.

Have you tried yogurt? Nicholas is nuts for the yobaby & yotoddler yogurts. Its the only thing his older cousin will eat (13 months).

that's one thing he will eat...he has yogurt every morning...some days he'll eat the whole containers, some days only half.. yesterday he ate so many raspberries, i thought he'd turned into one
i think i'm just freaking myself out because he doesn't eat tons of food. he might be a grazer.

i read the kelly mom link and it was very reassuring. he still nurses quite a bit, so i'll try my best to fill in the gaps. iron is a concern because his iron was on the low end of normal at 9 months and he took iron every other day for 3 months to get it up. the dr took him off the supplement at 12 months, but i need to make sure he keeps his iron up with food now.

Isaac is almost 21 months and his eating is still very hit and miss. I wouldn't worry about it. I learned with my older daughter that it's not something to worry about. She went through phases where she didn't eat much and I would worry so much about it and it was stressful. Now that she is 4, she eats great.

L still has days where he grazes pretty much all day and others where he eats two good meals and basically skips lunch. I definitely worried more once he weaned himself, because I didn't have that backup. He has a love/hate relationship with most foods, but eats eggs for breakfast every day and loves his peanut butter sandwiches.

Ashlynn is abnormal. She can out eat me some days. She still has days where all she wants is a banana, a few bites of lunch and a nibble of dinner though. I don't push it..when she is hungry, she will eat.
She was a big eater when she was younger too, but it was still a hit and miss and I remember plenty of days that she didn't eat much. Teething didn't help, of course.
Mama milk was perfectly fine for her on those days
