Do you have any plans to support Autism Awareness month? Is so, what?

You could...

make a small donation to an autism group of your choice... or post a new article about autism or autism awareness month to your facebook page... I'm a writer, so this month I am donating profits from my book to my favorite autism advocacy group. Anything to raise awareness helps, even if you never spend a dime

I have never thought of supporting any groups or anything like that. If I had the funds I would. I love to help where I can.

^^Wow Jennifer...I had no idea you had him evaluated. I hope he gets some services now for his speech (I did know he was struggling in that area). I hope there is lots available to him now that he is diagnosed.

We do some donation work in my church group (which has a staggering number of autistic children for such a small group...two boys and one girl out of 24 kids total). And I'll do some posting of new articles and advocacy. I feel it needs all the attention it can get. There was talk of someone doing an autism walk locally...but it fizzled out and I don't think it's happening. But I would walk if they had something here. It's a small area though, so I know it's harder to get things like that here.

I have two very good friends whose sons have autism (or are on the spectrum, one is not technically diagnosed and one is autistic). So it's something I like to stay involved with.

We have known he was behind but were hoping he would catch up by three. He didn't and we finally admitted that there was more to it than just being a late talker. It was so difficult to hear the speech evaluator say "He should be evaluated by a neurologist." We have gotten the IEP process started for school so he can be placed in the appropriate classes and he had his neurologist appt Monday. He has been referred to a place that specializes in speech for kids with developmental delays, an allergist, and behavioral therapy that focuses on the entire family. We are working on his sleep and diet issues.

Sorry, kind of went on and on there.

Thank you btw. Now that he has a diagnosis, there are tons of services available.
