Sad circumstances . . .

The family's debts include $20,000 in medical expenses . . .

I never watched the show until recently when a firefighter's family in this area was picked for the build.

When a house is renovated or completely rebuilt, the value goes up therefore raising the mortgage and taxes. I have only seen a handful, if that, where Ty says the mortgage is completely paid for. And I wonder about these people who didn't have the money to renovate, rebuild or move altogether in the first place, craeating the need for EMHE to step in.

These people have piling medical bills for their son and have already had to refinance the house. These people should not have to worry about this. And if the home is foreclosed on, that puts the son's world into a tailspin because it is the surroundings he is used to.

This is a sad circumstance. IMHO I think the show was just created to get ratings. Sure it seems like it helps people but in the end, are they really winning?

I think its a great and noble cause to help someone get an extreme makeover, including a financial payment to cover the increase in property values, utilities, etc. The show does state that they highly recommend recipients get financial advice from a trusted professional. I feel bad that this family could not catch a break at all.

I have absolutely no sympathy for the family in Atlanta who came close to loosing their house when they refinanced it for a construction business that went bust with 2 mortgages.

I didn't know they advise to get financial advice. And I have nothing against the show whatsoever. It also got me thinking since this family was a recipient in 2004, maybe they didn't have the advice of that. My sister said to me she felt sorry for the families in the FIRST season, as they didn't get a total tear down but just a room or something added on...she said they got gypped. Maybe things were a little different when they got their house.
