I think it's wonderful! When I had my children (they are about to be 10 & 11) there were not a lot of breastfeeding mothers out there. And there wasn't a lot of support for breastfeeding mothers - I think THAT was a big part of the problem!
When I had my first son I knew next to nothing about BFing! And when I was in the hospital the nurses told me I did not have the type of breasts that a baby could latch onto easily (flat nipples). Then the nurses told me to feed him formula because he "would starve to death and die" . . . . YEAH! The nurse actually said those words to me! A new mother! At 22! WHAT?!?!
A year later I had my second child and was ready! I had talked with a Doula, read The Breastfeeding Book by La Leache, and spoken to my doctor. When they brought my baby in after my C-Section, a nursing consultant came in with him and helped me from THE VERY FIRST TIME! What a difference that made! She came in at least once a day while I was in the hospital and called me after I went home!
I know there are many milestones now that are quite high, but at the time, I was very proud to nurse exclusively for 6 months!
