That's so terrible! I can only wonder where were the parents? Why did they leave the kids in the car with the keys in it? Doesn't everyone know not to leave your car running with your kids in it? It's so easy to shift into gear and kids always mimic that movement!
It scares me so much to think of all that can go wrong on any given day

You dont even need the keys to put a vehicle into gear in some cars. I know of cars that the brake pedal safety contraption is broken, allowing you to put the car into drive without applying the brake. Its rather common in older vehicles. An ex of mine actually got into his moms mustang when he was 3 and rolled it into a barn, that car was a 5 speed which is much easier to do.

Unfortunately the only way to prevent this is to...
A) Lock your doors at all times. House and car.
B) Dont let your young children play outside unsupervised.
C) Both.

Big thoughts go out to the families and the children.

I'd like to know more about this story. From reading the article, I understood that the mother who was hit by the car (the mother of the baby that dies) was not the mother of the children in the car. But when I read the comments from people who read the article (not here) some of them thought the "mother" was the mom to the children in the car as well.
