OK, you guys are my only resource for this, I don't know anyone who has any knowledge of herbal medicines lol In February, I had a bacterial throat infection, but was unable to finish the 3 different antibiotics I tried b/c I kept having allergic reactions. Since then, every month around the time I get my period, I get swollen adenoids (the gland behind your nose...sort of) making it difficult to breathe through my nose for a good 4-5 days, and randomly throughout the month my glands will swell in my neck and in my jaw. I'll sometimes have 3 different episodes of swollen glands in a month! And in general, I feel about 80% healthy...I'm more tired, I get out of breath easily, but it's not knocking me on my ##### or anything. This is going on the 5th month I've been dealing with all this crap, I've been to the doctor's office every month since February, and past antibiotics, they're no help.

Any advice?

Can you be referred to a specialist? Even if you don't want to use pharmaceutical meds, it's hard to know how to herbally/homeopathically treat something if you don't know what you're dealing with, kwim?

I get terrible throat infections all the time. My tonsils get all ###### and white. Gross, huh? I should get my tonsils out, but I really don't want to. For me, it's hereditary. All my siblings have had to get their tonsils out.

I gargle with hydrogen peroxide, it's not herbal, but it helps me avoid antibiotics 9 times out of 10. It'll really bubble up in your throat and make you gag, but it really kills the bacteria in there. Keep it in there as long as you can stand it. Do it a couple of times in a row, and then a few hours later, do it again. If you find it bubbles up too much, you can dilute it 50/50 with water, but I take the straight stuff.

ETA: The blacked out word isn't naughty!!! It is the word meaning "covered in pus" which I guess could also be something naughty, but that's not how I meant it!!!

I swear by probiotics for anything bacterial! Antibiotics kill off the bad bacteria, but they also kill all of the good bacteria too. Probiotics help the good bacteria to multiply, which keeps bad bacteria from taking over. You can buy them over the counter, usually under the name of L.acidophelus basilicus (sp?). Look for the ones that contain at least 1 billion live cells; it costs a little more but you won't have to take as many. I first took 2 a day to clear an embarassing infection that I'd rather not discuss and once the infection cleared I've always just taken 1 a day.

I second the probiotics! I have actually just started giving them to my kids as well.

Are they made with penicillin? I guess that's what I'm allergic to - I tried amoxicillan, erythromycin, and clarythromycin and had reactions to all of them. I'm not 100% sure the throat issues are bacterial...can bacteria stick around for 4+ months?!

No, there are no antibiotics in them whatsoever. Probiotics are the bacteria found in yogurt

Hey there :-)

First I would get your thyroid levels checked.

In the mean time....go buy a HUGE bottle of cranberry capsules. Take about 6-8 a day. Cranberry is not just great for the urinary tract but also the entire lymphatic system.
If you eat dairy limit your milk and cheese consumption as well.

HTH!!!

Thanks! I've had bloodwork done (actually, extensive bloodwork lol) because I've had dizziness for a few months as well - I think it's connected to these random throat issues. I had my thyroid, blood sugar, iron levels, etc done and they were all normal.
