Emotional, indecisive, and I need advice!

We don't plan to find out the sex of the baby so I wanted to stock up on gender neutral everything. We got a Chicco travel system that is all grey (it was on clearance for about $180), we got a Chicco playyard that is grey with green trimming (on clearance for $80) and about 40 random colored Charlie Banana cloth diapers (paid roughly $5-8/each).

Recently I've been regretting the purchases. I'm not too worried about the playyard, but I keep telling myself if it's a girl I'm really going to regret not getting a girlier travel system. And I'm completely reconsidering my choice to cloth diaper. I have heard horror stories on cloth diapering and it has me terrified. I know it sounds so silly to get emotional over this, but I am and I feel so stressed trying to make a decision.

I need some advice ladies. What should I do -or, what would you do??

well you can allways spruce up the travel system with toys blankets diaper bag ect once LO is born. youll have to have the infant carrier or a convertible car-seat to leave the hospital though so if you do decide to return the grey one youd have to send someone to buy you a girly/boyish travel system while your still in the hospital.

as for Cloth diapering Iv no experiance im not interested in it in the least but know several ppl that do and love it. you can always use disposables in between cloths untill you get the hang of it. I know it has its own set of things you have to do that can be a little daunting at first but lots of ppl love it. you chould also return tem for now and buy agin if you decide your up for the task after baby comes but you might not get the same deal.

I have no advice on cloth diapers as I've never done it although I've heard many say that even if you use disposables, have some cloth ones on hand, you never know if you might run out and not have money for more or something like that.

As for the travel system, I think we need to get away from the "girl" and "boy" things anyways. It's us dressing up our girls in all pink and boys in all blue that make it seem wrong to have a girl not dressed in pink. As was said above though, you can always add pink accessories if you feel the need to.

I don't cloth diaper because dh won't go along with it. I know a lot of people who cloth diaper and they love it. They've tried both cloth and disposable and they all say they will never go back to disposable. If its something you really want to do, you should give it a try. If it doesn't work out for you, you can go to disposable and sell the cloth diapers (a lot of consignment shops around here take them). I would say keep some disposable diapers in the house, just in case. You also may want to buy different brands of cloth diapers, because not all will work well for you and baby.

As far as the travel system, since you don't know what you're having I think gender neutral is good. Once the baby is here, at least for me, the print on the travel system didn't really matter. I was just happy I had one. I ended up with a blue "boyish" travel system and now I'm on #2 and even if the baby is a girl, they will use it, the whole gender specific gear doesn't matter anymore. I agree, you can add stuff to mane it more girl if you want. Also, when your out even if you have your baby is super girly or boyish stroller, people still ask if its a boy or girl. Lol

These emotions are normal during pregnancy. I put and took off three different cribs and like 5 travel systems from my registry with my first. I kept regretting my decision and had to change it. Lol.

I got nothin on cloth diapers but I'll share with you what my husband said to me when I wanted gender specific stuff for my boy,
Gender specific main accessories make no sense realistically because what if the next baby is the other gender? Are you going to want to spend all that money on the other color next time? It's nice to think all the kids had their own stuff but it's not the carseat or pack and play you'll remember.

I'm really glad he brought me back from the gotta have the right color mindset because last time was a boy and this time is a girl who will be carried around in the same green/brown monkey stuff little man was. Just having that stuff from him saves us so much time and money this pregnancy.

You'll figure out what's best for you guys, just give it a little time. Buying stuff is a huge deal and pretty stressful so take it easy and see if your hubby can comfort your fears a bit. *hugs*

I cloth diaper and love it. But it's not like once you buy them you're stuck. Try it out, use them part time. See how it goes. Pregnancy hormones are terrible, make you stress about things you don't need to! Hugs!

I suggest hitting up craigslist and buying the big stuff gently used. You don't want to buy used car seats for safety concerns, but used strollers are ok. We bought her swing used and when she outgrew it, gave it to one of the churches in town. We have a small house and just don't have the space to store big stuff like that. We didnt feel bad giving it away because we only spent $40 on it. Big ticket things that were brand new were gifts from family and friends. What we bought as far as big stuff was concerned was always used. You save boat loads that way and when baby outgrows it, you can give it away or resell it.

I have no clue about cloth diapers, but a grey pram goes lovely with pale pink accessories!! I had a grey one with Alex so I then accessories it with pale blue. It looked lovely!

It's ok to get worried about these things....so much unknown! I think gray is a wonderful color and be made more feminine or masculine depending on what you want.

Cloth diapering...I got nothing. You can try it and see if you like it and go from there. I think it sounds exhausting but I'm also kinda lazy lol. It seems a lot of moms do it and LOVE IT. Whatever choice you make will be the right one!

Re: Emotional, indecisive, and I need advice!

Thank you ladies so much for the encouragement. After talking to hubby we decided grey is probably the best option for us since we won't be finding out and as mentioned above can be 'decorated' with pink or blue toys depending on the sex.

As for the cloth diapers, it was an idea I brought up in general conversation, but an idea hubby ran with. Most wives complain their husbands want nothing to do with it, but the roles are reversed for us. It sounded nice at first to save money on disposables but the more I look into the less intrigued I become. Hopefully that attitude will change in the coming months. My husband wants to use cloth at home and disposables in public. I just hate the idea of messing with poop more than I need to.

It's the extra messing with poop that turns me off it too. Lol

I do agree. I decided to look to see what stroller I would want if it was a girl and I honestly didn't care for any of the ones I could afford. It made me realize I like the all grey either way. I also remembered why I liked it in the first place -it matches the carseats I older two have. I am OCD about things matching. I just needed some sense talked into me! :-)

Re: Emotional, indecisive, and I need advice!

Sorry I am wandering because there is no May club up yet and I just wanted to let you know ...I cloth diapered my son until he was 2 and a bit and i LOVED it. :) Maybe I just had a great experience with it but it made me feel great to be doing it for my baby and I was proud to do it. Its not difficult. I also used disposables for out of the house, I didnt want to pack around poo filled diapers with me and deal with them when I got home. They can be hard to fit into a car seat as well lol

It also really depends on the type of diapers you buy, some are a bit more work than others. You could also look into a diaper service depending on where you live? they bring the clean diapers right to your house and pick them up dirty to wash them :)

Re: Emotional, indecisive, and I need advice!

I don't cloth diapers either, which is odd considering I'm all about natural stuff. So not much help there. I don't get into the gender specific stuff, I always think it looks cheesy. I had gender neutral stuff every time. I don't like my girl dressed in nothing but pink and purple. It's so "inside the box." But if it makes you unhappy try finding another system that fits what you may like a bit better. But you do need the seat when the baby is born so probably best to get it ahead of time.
