birth control pills linked to increased risk of glaucoma

While I was sitting in the lab for my hour of boredom this morning, this came on the news. I don't use birth control of any kind as I'm pretty much infertile without assistance, but I thought this would be useful for some of you other ladies.

I know, right? Personally, I try to encourage people to use non hormonal birth control. I understand people want control over when and how many kids they want, and I don't judge people that choose hormonal methods, but I've always felt there are risks they don't know or don't tell people about. Until after the fact.
I wonder if this study will expand to all hormonal methods or stay to just the pills considering it's all the same for the most part.
They did say a decrease in estrogen has been linked to glaucoma too, which is supposed to be why it's more common in menopausal women.

Wow that's scary! I was on the pill for 9 years- I figured it was the safest form of birth control because it's been out for so long (aside from condoms etc).
I've already begun discussing with DH that I'd like him to get a vasectomy after our girls are born, since we only want 2 kids. This is more of a reason for me not to go back on the pill.

I took yaz and it screwed me up. I was on yaz then missed a day, got pregnant, and miscarried almost immediately. Not to mentioned I just ballooned. I became an absolute pig. I could never get full then never was able to lose the weight before Lily came around.

I have completely sworn off anything hormonal. Come to find out, some months after I went off of it, it was discontinued after reports of strokes I think.

I was never on Yaz- I was on ortho tri cyclen lo. I never had a problem with it, and never gained weight because of it.
Before I went on the pill, I used the Depo Provera shot- it lasts 3 months. I got it twice, then vowed never to get it again! I was SO moody/emotional right after I got it. I'd cry over nothing, and was really cranky and moody. After I stopped it I heard that it can actually cause bone loss, so I'm glad I wasn't on it for long!

iv never been on BC my family reacts terribly to hormones like bring on the phych ward cray cray so it was never worth the risk to me but with 2 kids under 2 im problly risking a copper IUD now honestly id rather risk perforation then act like my mother on estrogen patchs

that and nothing whould suprise me as a side effect to hormonal BC when your takeing something to unballance your body youve got to expect things will go wrong

Just one more reason that my DH should get a vasectomy. he is not wanting to do it so we have been having some arguments about it. I don't like taking birth control and really don't want to go back on it. Plus our first child was conceived while I was on birth control so it doesn't always work.

Scary! I was on birth control pills from the age of 13 till about 20 (for period issues). I tried taking then again a few years ago and I cannot handle hormonal birth control anymore. No one told me they could make me crazy. I totally lost it and almost destroyed my relationship with my now dh. I'm afraid to take anything because I also don't want an iud but I seem to get pregnant too easily, so I need to do something.

I figure the best way is to track like TTC but for opposite reasons.
