Common Symptoms of Food Allergies
~For informational purposes, I am not a doctor, and this does NOT double as medical advice! As always, you should check with your pediatrician for medical concerns regarding your child or children. We are here to help you figure out what you need/want to ask about, and to support you once allergies are known/confirmed/diagnosed. :) ~
Food allergies have a variety of ways they can show up. Some of the most common symptoms of a possible food allergy can be sorted into the following categories:
Typically, if you are dealing with a food allergy, the symptoms will be moderate-severe in intensity, and reoccuring with additional exposures.
Gastro-intestinal: Diarreah, bloody stool, mucousy/snotty stool, gassy symptoms/pain, or sudden redness/swelling around the diaper areas (ie, a red ring, sudden rash that isn't typical diaper rash)
Skin-related: Eczema (a scaly rash that is worst around folds in the skin like wrists, feet, elbows, backs of knees etc.), especially eczema that crusts or bleeds and gets worse after meals(or exposures).
Anaphylactic-type reactions: These are the ones you know/expect. Hives, swelling of the face or hands, trouble breathing. These are the dangerous reactions that need to be seen asap by a doctor/ER. Hives are the least dangerous if they occur by themselves, but a trip to the doctor after a hives-type reaction is still a very very good idea..you never know!
