How much is too much?

Elizabeth weighed 9lbs 3oz at her 4 week appointment. I'm not sure what her exact weight is currently. The thing is she's drinking 5-6oz at a feeding and she's still looking for a bottle every 3-4 hours. She spaces some feedings even closer together so she's eating 6-7 times a day. I'm starting to wonder if I need to ask the pediatrician about it. It seems like she's overeating for her weight and age. I know she's gained some since her appointment, but not enough that it's made any difference in her diapers or anything. My oldest did this and had to have rice cereal in her bottles. Now I'm wondering if she'll need the same thing. Any advice?

I started DD on formula at 3 weeks and she always ate 5+ oz at a time every 2-3 hours. Now that she's 6 months old she still eats only about 6 oz at a time and spaces them out about 4 hours, when she has a growth spurt though she'll sometimes eat 8. I've always heard that you can't over feed a baby, to follow their cues. That's what I've always done. But if your concerned it can't hurt to talk to your pedi, though they all seem to have different opinions :shrugs:

Yeah, I have always heard you can't overfeed a baby, unless they start to spit up. Which then it's an issue. But if she is happily eating that much, it is probably fine.

My nephew would eat almost 60 ounces a day when he was about 2 months old. The kid was a beast!! When my brother asked the pediatrician about it, she said the same thing - you can't over feed a baby, but it is wise to try and keep it below 40 ounces a day.

On average, a one month old will eat 18-26 oz./day
If you use the formula for figuring out the rough estimate, (9.18 lbs x 2.5 ounces = 22.975) She should be drinking about 23 ounces a day, or 6 four ounce feedings. If she's going through a growth spurt, she could be needing more. Or maybe she just needs more, as every baby is different :)

As long as she is happy and full, I wouldn't about it :D
