Hey everyone when I lived in the midwest Save-a-lot was my best friend. I've been out here for a few months now and as far as I can tell there aren't any chains like that in the San Antonio Texas. Does anyone know of anything like that out here?

You have no Save a Lot? :o I'd go crazy. I love that place!!! I get beans for .39/can, when the generics at the grocery stores around here are .79/can! :o It's crazy how much I can save getting the 'right' things there. :D

That being said, I have nothing to add... except my sympathies. :( Sorry.

I am in the Houston area and we have HEB, Kroger and Randalls.

HEB is where I go for everyday shopping. They have the lowest prices on most things.
Kroger is the next best and is worth a trip at least once a month because they double coupons up to 0.50 and triple up to 0.39.
Randalls is the most expensive.

I also go to Walmart occassionally because they have a few things a lot cheaper than the other stores.

We don't have Albertsons here but I think other areas in Texas have them. I'm not sure how good they are, because I never went.

I just did a search and found out we do have a Save A Lot that is 10 miles from me. But I have never seen one and I have never been to one.

You should definitely try it! If you don't mind generic, you can save a bundle. They have some name brand stuff too, though. I know the big tubes of oatmeal is over 2.00 at the grocery, but it's only 1.49 there. I already mentioned the beans. The flour is 1.15/5 lb. there, and the regular grocery generic brand is at least 1.59/5lb. Lunch meat--the same brand that I get at the grocery for 3.49--is 2.79 there. Same size. Same brand. (carl buddig) They also carry Betty Crocker potatoes, and at the regular grocery, they are 1.49/box here. SAL is only .99/box. And they take coupons! So those .35 coupons they have now and then bring the boxes well below a buck when they're still over a dollar at the grocery.

The savings are fantastic. Yes, I love Save a Lot.
