Help.. me

ok my DD went to the DR today and basicaly got told taht soon if she dosen't gain weight fast will be marked FTT. She is 7m going to be 8 months on the 8th. and weights 14.10 and 25inl ong. I'm really worried she looks healthy and is pourportioned(sp?) fine. she is still able to wear newborn cloths and fits losely in 3-6 month clothing. I don't know what to do. she gtes 10 feedings a day 5 bottles with formula 6oz. with added rice /oatmeal and baby food. then inbetween bottles she gets baby food. When i am eattings something she can have she gets that too.

She got a blood test today and we are waiting for the results.

My baby was not that small at birth she was 8.4 oz and 19 in I just don't know what to do i feel like i'm not doing something right as a mother..

Re: Help.. me

Is she staying in her own curve, losing weight, or just staying the same. The answers are different for all three. If she is gaining, even is very slow, but is not losing weight and has no other problems than it doesn't seem as if FTT would be a problem just meaning that she isn't growing very quickly. If she is losing weight that is different because with as much as she is eating she should at LEAST stay the same. Does she have diarrhea or anything digestive such as reflux? If so that will contribute quite a bit to the lesser weight gain or loss.

I know I had more questions than answers but FTT is not a cut and dry diagnosis. If she is small but fine proportionaly and in every other aspect of health ( growing, motor skills, eating well, etc.) than it isn't really a problem but more of a worrier.

And...you are NOT a bad mother...there is NOTHING that you haven't allready done. You ARE feeding her enough...you care about her EXACTLY as you should and how you should. Doctors and diagnosis about our LO's are the most nerveracking things that everyone here understands at one point or another will make you feel like a horrible mom. REMEMBER that you are not a horrible mom and that you are the BEST person for your baby now and forever!

I know it's very scary to hear that something could be wrong with your child, what blood tests did they do?
Abbey was DX with FTT when she was 5mos old, she is 11mos old and weighs 13lbs, and she was 8lbs when she was born. she has gone through every test possible. I Agree tho that if she is following her OWN curve, she is ok, I know with Abbey she started out in the 75th % for the 1st few months and then dropped to the 1%.

Ditto what the ladies said. You've gotten some good advice. If she's maintaining her own curve, regardless of percentiles or where it is on the chart, I wouldn't worry. Some kids are just small. If she's slowing down, that can be normal too, especially if she's more active. If she's not gaining at all or she's losing, then I would push for some tests to be done. My little guy is 2 years old and weighs 20lbs on a good day. Anyway, welcome!

She was in the 25% and slowly she has droped to the 5%. She has lost an oz here and there over all she is gaining .. but has remained in the 14.p scale for over 2 and a half months. All I know on the blood test is that it was testing her for thiroyid issues. She is proportioned well and her dr says she has never seen a baby not gain weight , but look so good at the same time before. She had reflex issues bad tell about 6 months and then it went away.

Sorry to be so freaked out earlyer i just hadn't had time to deal emotionaly. I still feel bad looking at other chiildren her age and seeing just how small she is. it also worries me when people think she is like 3 months old. She isn't that small i don't think .. but then again she is wearing 0-3 clothing .. Ug. I just don't know what to do to help her I feel helpless.

There are some simple test that can be done to check for the most common reasons why kids may be small or not gaining. Most of them can be done just for your peace of mind and I'd ask your doctor about them.

Don't worry about your little one being smaller than other kids. Someone has to make up the bottom percentiles. I think she sounds like a good weight for her age and looking at her picture in your siggie, she looks happy and healthy! My little guy can still wear 3-6 month shorts for the waist and a lot of his clothing is in 6-12 month stuff right now. Hang in there, I think you guys are just fine!
