So since Tasiya has not been able to communicate with us very well I have been teaching her some basic signs. (Thank you, more, eat and sleep.) I was wondering if anyone knew of a good baby/child sign language book or dvd?

I HIGHLY recommend Signing Time. My little boy Caden has autism and apraxia and we started signing with him in Januray using Signing Time and he can now sign over 150 signs and can put 2-3 signs together at a time. I would start out with Baby Signing Time. The DVD's are a little bit pricey, but well worth it. You can also get most of them at the library. Hope this helps.

I second the SigningTime suggestion!

We have all 13 volumes... my son LOVES ST and has learned so much from it. Like the previous poster, my son knows TONS of signs and has been able to connect 2-3 signs (like "diaper" and "change" when he is getting a diaper change or wants a change, etc). We love SigningTime!

Good luck!

Thanks! I'll look in to them!

I don't have a hearing impaired child but noticed this board and it caught my interest since my 10 yr old sister is profoundly deaf.

Anyways, we had the signing time book which I agree was great for kids learning sign. We used SEE(signing exact english) and had a large book for that, which is how I taught myself along with someone coming to help us learn weekly.

I have no experience with the ST but I heard they are excellent. I know ASL myself, as I am hearing impared and anything that will help a child learn how to sign, I am all for it.

I'm the mother of a 2.5yr old with a Speech Delay and of a 15mth old with a hearing impairment. We've used "Signs for Me" by Benjamin Bahan. We've taken a sign language course through a program they offer here in our state to Hearing Impaired or Deaf children and their families. Our teacher who is Deaf told us about the book and highly recommended it.

We found the book very useful with our 2.5 yr old since he always gets frustrated when we do not understand his wants/needs.

I hope this helps.
