UPDATED IN POST #5!

I am usually a lurker but I'm coming out the shadows because I have a big predicament. Okay, my first child was born by c-section in Nov 06. It never should have happened. I was not in danger...she was not in danger, I just had an impatient doctor and I was not educated or prepared enough to say no. So here I am. I want an HBAC this time. That seems easy enough, right? There are tons of midwives that are eager to do those. Here's where it gets sticky. I live in South Carolina. DHEC Regs prohibit a midwife from delivering ANY VBAC, whether it's in a birth center or at home. I absolutely DO NOT want a hospital birth...BTDT, have the scar. So how do I find a doctor that will do it? Can a midwife come from say NC or GA and do it? Do I have to go to them? I don't know if I can ride that far in labor...

This is all so confusing. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. ;)
Thanks!!

Often times there are MWs that will go against the grain & do it. Both from out of state and some that are in state. T hey do risk prosecution - but usually only if the parents prosecute or if theres a transfer, another Dr finds out, and the dr pushes for prosecution.

In 99% of the cases, though - evne if things do end up in a transfer, and you dont "out" the MW - the MW is ok. You will not be held liable though.

Check around - get on motheringdotcommune and see if they know of any MWs in SC or that travel to SC. Another option - youre nto too far from TN & the Farm Birth Cetner is there - women travel from neighboring states to give birth there by the HUNDREDS!

I contacted my local ICAN chapter and that has been a tremendous help! I can't believe the overwhelming response I've received from those ladies. Things are looking up!!! I'm so excited. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I'm just so happy to have options. :bluecheer:
