When to call your midwife?

What sort of contraction pattern did your midwife want you to have before you called her? Did she have any guidelines for when to call her?

I think her guidelines were when they were about 5 minutes apart to call her. We called between 5 - 4 minutes apart.

We were told to call as soon as we think I am in labor since our primary midwife is still a student and her predecessor needs at least 2 hrs to get here.

4-5 minutes. I don't notice them or a pattern until they are 2-3 minutes apart and by then I'm in transition. She lives about 35 minutes away and will hopefully make it in time. I precip. Shortest labor was 47 minutes and longest was 3 hours (#1).

When they were 5-1-1 (5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute, for over an hour) We actually called a bit before to let them know I was in labor, thankfully we did cause she was at another birth

Re: When to call your midwife?

She asks that we call her as soon as we suspect labor or that it might be coming (so she can rally the troops, arrange childcare, etc.), but not to *really*really* call her until 5-1-1 (5 minutes apart, 1 minute each for 1 hour). That said, since we live so close, she said she'll probably pop by for checks, see what's up and take it from there anyway.

I will probably call when I get to 6cm. I generally check myself when I think labor has started. I tend to start labor at around 5 minutes apart.

Re: When to call your midwife?

I just asked this at my last appt since I have never started labor on my own. She said to call if my water breaks or if I have bloody show. She said they would be arriving when contractions were 5 minutes apart, but to give them a call if I am sensing labor just so they can get prepared. They also told my hubby to watch me and call if I seem strange...I tend to be the kind to put off calling people till last minute because I don't want to inconvenience them..LOL!
