How long... and other questions about the tub

Just trying to make that darn decision still....

How long does it take to set up and fill the birth tub? We'd be using a birth pool in a box. Also, we only have carpet in our level of the house. There is a teeny bit of tile, but that is right in front of our doors to outside, and in the kitchen... I don't know, maybe in front of the doors would be the best place... but I'm wondering if the carpet is okay to put it on. Should we put a tarp down underneath it if we put it on the carpet? I know my midwife would answer all of these questions, but I'm just up thinking about it, knowing I have this great big choice to make (can you tell I'm an insomniac when something's on my mind?)

Yeah you can put a tarp down. We bought a few for the birth pool and our bed and they were $4.99 for decent size ones, plenty big for the birth pool. As for filling it up, I guess it depends on how fast your water flow is. Usually you should do a timed test run first. We did ours and it took 4 minutes to blow it up with an electric pump, and 45 minutes to fill it up.

Re: How long... and other questions about the tub

We had our inflatable tub on top of carpet. I actually bought a few shower curtain liners and used that under the tub as a tarp. I was pretty nervous about the mess on the carpet. We were renting the house at the time and had off white carpet throughout. Luckily, there was no mess to clean up. I gave birth to the placenta outside of the tub, on the shower curtains and a few chux pads. It all got tossed out in the garbage after the birth.

Good luck!

Thanks ladies. The more I think about it, the more I don't really see a difference between the birth center and home... I mean yes we have to set up the pool, but that seems like it would be about equal to the time it would take to drive round trip. And the more I think about taking my one to four hour old baby into the car, the more I just want to stay where my bed already is. I'm just remembering what the four hours after Jonah's birth were like, and I don't think it would be good to interrupt everything with a drive, I'd just like to sit and cuddle and bond.

It took about 20 minutes to set up the Aquadoula and 2-3 hours to fill up. Used a fill and drain pump via bath tub.

Had everything set up and ready several hours before his birth and still didn't get to use it. lol
