Do you ever think....

Do you ever think about how you will be when your children are making their own personal "birth choices".... I know I hope my girls explore the options of natural childbirth and home birth. I don't know how I'd react if they opted for an elective c-section...

Yes! I hope that they at least consider natural birth - and that my sons consider it for their children's births as well. I do think it may help that three of our kids were born at home and the oldest three were there and really enjoyed the experience. I think it may also help that our midwife is also our best friend and we have several other friends who are Doulas and birth photographers so birth is probably more a part of their lives than the average childs.

I am not sure how I will feel if they choose a hospital birth. I will probably think lots of things that I won't actually say to them ;)

Yes. I'm very open with talking about birth, and my 3 year old already knows more than the average child his age. I know that it'll be up to him and his wife/baby's momma how they birth, but I hope they would ask me for some insight.

I have thought about this. I admit I would be a bit disappointed if it wasn't something along the natural route, as I feel that is healthiest. Not sure how I would specifically react though.

I hope that my boys give their feelings and thoughts of the matter to their wives. I think it might be harder with having only boys but I want them educated on birth. My almost 5 year old is already asking a ton of questions (that we had to stop because he kept going on in the car as we were about to get out haha) and we answer them all honestly.

I want them to know that there are choices and they need to be educational ones. To speak up with their feelings but to remember they're not the ones going through the labor and delivery so no matter how my future grandchildren are born, I hope they are supportive of their wives decisions. I do hope that their home births will play a role in it though.

Yea...I plan to advocate to them as they grow....and remind them of my experience. Emma wants to be there when I have this baby so I'm sure that will help, too.

I met with a friend I met on JM this week and her mom was with her...her mom had 4 out of 5 homebirths....so it was fun to get to chit chat with her....so far for her her kids hadn't chosen this route (though my friend is for her next)...anyway...thought that was interesting

My kids all think it's odd when they hear about a baby being born in a hospital. #1 knows he was, but he also knows that we didn't know about hb at the time. And our closest friend here has had her #2 and #3 at home and will have the rest of her babies at home too God willing. So that's the norm to them. Same with bfing...I don't let them have baby bottles because I want bfing to be the norm. They know some moms can't/won't bf and they have to use bottles, but we don't use them here and that God made a mom's body to bf and a baby's body to be bf'd. Since we plan to continue having babies until menopause (I'm 28), there will be new babies/births/bfing in our house pretty much constantly as the older kids grow up, and when my body is finally done, the other kids will be having babies, so the younger ones will see that too.

I do hope they explore NCB. I dont think I will push my agenda on them..more then educating them. My mother is a big csection pusher, and hospital pusher..she doesnt even know of our plans for home birth. I dont want to deal with the stress..and I imagine my children would feel the same. I hope they make the choice that is right for them.
~my mom had 3 natural births, and one Csection. It was an emergency performed becuase she had placenta previa that ruptured at 36 weeks. She was pregnant with twins and a vaginal birth was never an option because of the previa. Since that traumatizing experience she has never looked at childbirth the same..she only see's danger. And there is NO talking her out of it..and plus she claims the Csection was easier to heal from.~
