I wanted to share my pictures from both of these experiences, and ask that anyone else who did similar things to commemorate the experience to share also! I had never done either one, and am so glad I did. I have seen other belly casts, but had never seen or done a placenta print. It will be a while before I paint the belly cast and have a finished product to display, but I am so excited at the way the placenta prints turned out in particular! (we got art paper and a scrapbooking ink pad at Michael's craft store to do it).

My doula, Ashley (pictures of her and her kids posted with permission) did both the belly cast and the placenta printing with me. Pictured at with the placenta print shots are her son and daughter, as well as my 4 yr old.

Belly Cast:

(I will update this with a picture of the belly cast off my body, but I haven't taken one yet)

Placenta Print:

(Jackson was asleep during his footprint portion of the placenta printing!)

Cool placenta prints! I've never seen that before.

I didn't do either of those, but my friends did a great henna tattoo on my belly during my Blessingway ceremony. You can see a picture of it on my blog (you'll need to scroll down a bit.)

Very cool! I'm having mine done on November 1st. Did you wear a regular bra? I'm trying to decide how best to "cover up" the girls.

I'll post pics right after. (and I love the placenta prints, I keep teasing dh that I'm going to hang one next to his deer head-for some "balance")

I've been contemplating a belly cast - guess I should hurry and make up my mind since I'm 35 weeks already. I'm just so not artsy when it comes to painting, I have no idea what I'd do with it afterward. But I'd loooove to have a picture of my newborn curled up inside it! :D

Never seen placenta prints before - what a cool idea! I think we just may have to attempt that!

I did a belly cast & a henna tattoo but I didnt do the placenta print. I wanted to but it got thrown in the freezer before I had a say, then it got left out on the counter to thaw out too long & we just straight buried it :(

I was going to do a placenta print but my ILs showed up before I had time to take care of anything (even getting M dressed) so I had DH throw it in the freezer. Eventually I will thaw it and when I do I may make a print.

I never did either, but after seeing your photos I wish I had! Maybe next time :D

i did a belly cast with kaylynn. i left it white and had the midwife put her foot prints on the belly of it when she was born. its in her room now. i love looking at it. i love the idea of the placenta prints too. kevin thought is was kinda gross....what does he know! he'll be in iraq by the time the baby is born so he doesn't have to see it being done. :-)
