Common Core and Homeschool Curricula.

So, I've been reading a bit about these Common Core Standards that are being pushed all around the US in public schools and have found that unfortunately, as homeschoolers, we are not immune. I am pretty angry about this. In my mind it is the homogenization and dumbing down of the next generation.

Here is information about Common Core: Two Moms vs. Common Core | National Review Online

Here is a list of Homeschool Curricula who do not use Common Core Standards:

I'm thankful that I'm still able to teach whatever I want to teach, however I want to teach it, and whenever I want to teach it. I worry about my grandkids, though.....

yikes! i dont like that one bit. Im not in the states so i was totally unaware of this, does that mean that as homeschoolers you have to comply and teach to their standards as well?

forgive me, i'm still new to homeschooling but does this just have to do with the standardized testing? I mean there arent any new rules for us homeschoolers besides the fact that our kids need to do well on their standardized testing right (although from what ive read the scores dont even need to be provided to anyone)?
Or is this about the curriculums being changed to go with the common core standards? We dont use a "curriculum" so that wouldnt affect us.

I never realized that the Common Core was spreading into private schools and homeschool materials and books. I'll definitely share the information you posted with others.

I'm on the fence. There really are a lot of pros AND cons to Common Core.

One thing I have noticed is that the homeschool curricula that have or are aligning to the common core have not dumbed down. They've added stuff. Most of them already *exceed* the common core standards and that is not changing.
