Hadith: Nursing and Pregnant women in Ramadan
Anas b. Mālik relates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Allah has excused the traveler from the obligation to fast and from half the units of his prayer. He has excused the pregnant woman and the nursing mother from fasting. [Sunan al-Tirmidhī (715), Sunan Abī Dāwūd (2408), and Sunan Ibn Mājah (1667)]
Some mothers take this exemption and others choose to fast some or all days during pregnancy or breastfeeding... has either situation come up for you? If you are pregnant or nursing now, how do you plan to approach it this year? :)
Re: Hadith: Nursing and Pregnant women in Ramadan
I am fasting this year insha'allah and I did last year as well, but I didn't during the 2 previous years due to my pregnancy and breastfeeding! I was very glad of the exception as both my late pregnancy and breastfeeding tended to make me ravenous at the drop of a hat (not to mention all the other effects), but at the same time, I felt a little sad not being able to participate in Ramadan as I usually did and not as festive.
I went to taraweeh at the mosque both of those years for the first time on a few nights to try to keep in the Ramadan mode, though I didn't last year as it would have been difficult to manage with my son!
