Kind of comforting..

I read somewhere that babies born at 27 weeks have a 90%+ chance of survival! I had no idea it was that good! I actually googled pictures of 27 weekers and It's hard to believe I have a baby that looks like a baby in there... for some reason I forget she's not a tadpole looking thing anymore!! lol!

It is somewhat comforting, especially with all of these contractions.

I have two cousins, one delivered at almost 25 weeks in September and another cousin delivered 29 week twins NYE, and it's CRAZZZZZY the difference between the babies!!!!

it is! i'm very happy to see those weeks tick by knowing the further i get the better chance these kids have if they come early. im actually going to discuss this with my dr next appt, i have to go to a different hospital to deliver before 34 weeks because one has a level 3 NICU and the hospital i am planning to deliver at only has a level 2 NICU cert despite having delivered an emergency 28 weeker.

Hurray! Thanks for sharing. Maybe this will calm all the preterm labor nightmares I've been getting...

Yes, today someone at my doctors office (she is due 3 days before me) and I were talking and she mentioned that at 28 weeks survival is almost guaranteed. I would more than love to get far past that but it is a comfort.

My "nephews" were born at 26 weeks and are doing really well! They are over a month old and both up to 3 lbs. It's amazing. I want this baby in as long as possible though! The nicu is fabulous, but I want to avoid it.

The survival rate for even "micro-preemies" is amazingly high. I copied this from http://www.squidoo.com/preemiesurvivalrates.

Up until 21 weeks: 0% survival rate

at 22 weeks: 0-10% survival rate

at 23 weeks: 10-35% survival rate

at 24 weeks: 40-70% survival rate

at 25 weeks: 50-80% survival rate

at 26 weeks: 80-90% survival rate

at 27 weeks: greater than 90% survival rate

according to the March of Dimes

My doctor told me that once you hit thirty weeks it's mostly about weight. Of course it's better, much better, for the baby to make it to full-term.
