Comfort.

Being a first time mother, I don't know what to expect during this pregnancy or what is considered normal. Books and articles have stated that this is the time where I should be pretty comfortable in my pregnancy. So why doesn't it feel that way?

I have a terrible time trying to find a comfortable position to sleep. I tend to have a lot of stretching pain around my abdomen and a bloated feeling. Sometimes I have a few slight pains but not enough to cause suspicion. I suspect its the famous fake contraction that happens but I'm not sure.

Does anyone else feel comfortable? If this is what is considered comfortable for the second trimester, what does that say about the third? :(

haha! those books lie!

while I am not napping constantly and can go a few days without barfing, sleeping certainly isn't comfortable, and my crotch hurts all the time.

you sound quite normal to me!

Yea, the books lie. I think the only thing those books are good for is a laugh for moms that have already had kids. Lol. My whole body hurts, and I don't expect it to get better. There will be things that quit hurting just for others to start hurting. After I had my kids I always looked at the second trimester with fondness because it gets much worse than this.

I'm still earlier than the rest of you, but I might be one of those people the books are talking about haha! I am completely comfortable with everything right now. I can still sleep in pretty much any position, but I try to get my body used to positions that it will need later. I honestly wouldn't know I was pregnant right now, and that goes for my 1st trimester too. It's been a scary 1st pregnancy for me though, for those reasons. I want to feel SOMETHING! (I have been feeling kicks for a couple weeks though, so that is comforting!)

Re: Comfort.

I think what they mean by "comfortable" is that compared to being sick most of the first trimester and being completely miserable in the third trimester, this is the most "comfortable" time during pregnancy. So its a big misconception lol!

When I was pregnant with DD I thought the same thing you were thinking, but now that I'm on to number two I get it, I'm not exactly comfortable, but considering how I felt the first 14 weeks and how I know whats coming during the 3rd trimester, I consider myself to feel awesome right now! lol

I am sleeping like crap, I can't get comfortable, I am feeling a lot of stretching in my abdomen this week, I have back pain that comes and goes, and I swell up in the heat. So yeah, I wouldn't consider that "comfortable" at all! I think if people wrote the pregnancy books while they were pregnant, they would tell a different story! hehe

You sound completely normal. Like a couple of the ladies have said, I think they mean comfortable by comparison, not like a normal non-pregnant comfort. I was puking constantly and felt miserable the first 16 weeks, and I know what's coming in the third. Do I feel phenomenal? Not a chance. My only complaint is that my back hurts sometimes, but there are things that most definitely remind me I'm pregnant. I can't get comfortable sleeping and I hate that my runs and workouts aren't as "easy" as they are when I'm not pregnant. But given where I was a few short weeks ago and where I'm headed from about 34-36 weeks until the end, I'll take it.

After reading all of our replies I kinda had to laugh a little. I hope that we aren't scaring you! It really isn't that bad in the third trimester. It is more uncomfortable, but in a different way. Also keep in mind that you are already over half way to meeting your baby, and you wont be pregnant forever (even though sometimes it feels like it). It does go by so fast, and before you know it you will have your little baby in your arms.

Lol, I read the books for a laugh. Really like others have said this is the most comfortable trimester but not in the normal term of comfortable. The third will get a little harder but it is so worth it in the end.

I sleep like an hour before walking up in pain and starting all over to get to sleep.

Re: Comfort.

LOL

With my first baby I'd go to every appointment with a laundry list of "is this normal?" type things or say something like - it feels like my muscles are being torn apart and every. single. time. the doctor would be like "yep, that's normal. Yep, your muscles really are being torn apart." Say WHaaa??

This pregnancy has been a breeze compared to my first. Hope the summer doesn't do me in with major swelling like my last baby though. I don't think my varicose veins can handle it.

Haha. To be honest, I feel better knowing that this is considered normal. I wasn't sure if my pregnancy was just one of the rare ones that sucked the entire way through or not. I'll take what I can get from this trimester, then. I have no idea what to expect when I reach the third half.

This is my 4th pregnancy past 16 weeks and this is by far the most uncomfortable I have been. I'm 23 weeks and he's low and breech and I just ache all over. 9 times out of 10 I'm struggling to find a good position to even sit in. Since he's so low my mat jeans tick him off which makes him ball up or stretch making me want to squirm to get comfy. Totally normal!! Every woman and every pregnancy is different :)
