Re: A fantastic read

The concern for me is when is it safe to do this? Rory would not eat for hours and hours if we let him. That's why he lost so much weight in the beginning. Even now he could be absolutely starving but not make a peep or even nibble on a finger. He's been getting better at letting us know when he is hungry but he doesn't do it often enough and he doesn't eat well enough at each feed to let him totally dictate when and how much to eat. With Alex, I never had this problem. He ate often and he ate well. If he surprised us one day with a 4-5 hour sleep crash I didn't bother to wake him and instead just pumped.

I think you base it on each baby. Like you said with Alex you wouldn't bat an eye of he had a longer sleep stretch but you know Rory is not that way so you need to help him dictate when to eat.

Rory and Bourne's stats are almost identical. B1was6lb 5oz and dropped to 5 Lb 9 oz. once we got passed the jaundice, my pedi said to feed on demand. Whie e was jaundiced (and sooooooo sleepy) I had to feed at a min every 3hours. Of course, once he became alert, he didn't go more than 2hours without nursing but he was a lazy nurser.
