"you need to switch to formula" ?????!!!!!

Ok. Did my mom seriously just say that I need to switch over to formula because my baby has a severe dairy intolerance and reflux? She kniws what I have been through to be able to breastfeed why would she say this? Madeline had a bad day today because something I ate yesterday must have had a little bit of dairy and I also had some garlic in my dinner. today she had a very bad belly ache and gas and her reflux was really bad. So when I got home she said to me you really need to switch her over to formula ---like I'm doing something horrible by breastfeeding her. In my opinion breastmilk is much better regardless and the benefits far outweigh the sacrifice of limiting my diet. I'm still ticked that she said that to me.:-(

((HUGS)) I'm sorry your mom said that to you! I would be LIVID! I'm sorry your little girl had a bad day. All babies have a bad day...I learned the other day that I can't eat refried beans because it makes Arthur spit up like crazy. You live and learn and adjust. So I can't eat certain things, big deal. Doing what's best for the baby is more important than getting to eat exactly what I want. And I feel for you ladies who have to give up dairy to do that. It sounds incredibly hard, and you guys have earned my utmost respect for being able to do that, and to find all the hidden dairy out there. I applaud you.

*lurking*
I wonder sometimes if this isn't a generational thing. In the 50's, 60's, & 70's, mothers were encouraged to use formula and told it was *better* for their baby. Pfft, I say. Who's to say the first formula you try won't upset baby? Breast milk is perfectly designed to meet our babies' nutritional needs, and our bodies conveniently are equipped with not one but two breast milk delivery devices!

Your baby is 3-ish months old now and it sounds like you have worked hard to get here. Keep up the good work, mama! You are doing the right thing for you and your baby.
