We go to my uncles house up on this beautiful mountain in morganton, nc. My whole family comes and we have a huge buffet there. I'm a little bummed about Thanksgiving this year because I don't know how to manage it with my dietary restrictions.....:-(

I turn on the Macy's parade and watch it while I prep the turkey. And then I cry when Santa shows up at the end. I don't know why I cry, it may because I associate the Macy's Parade with "Miracle on 34th Street" but I do, I cry. Every Thanksgiving. Like clockwork.

My only tradition is no matter where we go for dinner, I'm in charge of making the party potatoes. I'm required to lol

I am dairy free and here is my plan.
The turkey and gravy is OK. I am taking a container of almond milk to mash my own potatoes and sweet potatoes. Veggies should be OK. I am making a dairy free pecan pie (and perhaps a pumpkin pie) for me. I have coconut milk butter to put on my rolls. The cranberry relish is OK as well. Not a perfect meal when you cannot sample everything - there will be lots on my plate though.

My hubby and I share the cooking on turkey day...but no matter what I have to make the stuffing because only I got my MILs secret cracker stuffing recipe before she passed and everyone loves it.
Also my whole family comes to my house. I somehow became the family matriarch after my grandmas died. So everyone comes here for all holidays.

Re: Thanksgiving day traditions

It has been just us (DH, kids, and I) for Thanksgiving ever since we moved out of Oklahoma. So, I always do up the big, traditional dinner. I try to involve the kids with cooking as much as I can. During dinner I make everybody share what they've been thankful for from the last year. The kids think it is silly, and DH said they never did that in his family, but I thought it was a common practice? So, that's pretty much it... lots of food, lots of dishes to wash. Sometimes we watch a movie.

We always go to the movies. I think this year we will see Frozen!

My tradition is to wait until the last minute to clean my house before everyone comes over.
