Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

Quote:

Miscarriage is one of the most devastating experiences that can happen to a woman. Having one miscarriage is sadly, not that uncommon. Approximately two out of every ten pregnancies will result in miscarriage. After having one miscarriage most women go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Still there are a few women that will continue to have two, three or more miscarriages.

I have had a placenta

I have had a placenta abruption in the past, will this be a large risk again? I once took progestrone, do I need to again?

Spring-From what I read there

Spring-From what I read there is a possiblity that you could have another one. I would for sure inform your doctor. I just found out that I have a small abraision on mine. I was always taking progrestrone supplements since I have very low progrestrone. Good luck to you

This article is informative

This article is informative but not entirely helpful; for example in regards to treatment for women with PCOS. Women with that diagnosis are best to do their own extensive research, because insulin resistance therapy IS proven to be safer than this article implies.

FOR ANYONE WHO HAS HAD

FOR ANYONE WHO HAS HAD RECURRENT MISCARRIAGES: I had 3 miscarriages in the past 2 years. I'm now 5 months pregnant for the first time and want to share something with you that may help you. Please go to a specialist if you have had multiple miscarriages and ask them to give you a blood test to see if you have a blood clot. I had no idea that I have a blood clot that was preventing my fetus from being able to get oxygen and nutrients to grow. I always had a yolk sac but the fetus inside was either extremely small or seemed to have disappeared. My OBGYN never once mentioned anything about the possibility of a blood clot and I had never heard of it. It's more common than you think and I have no one in my family who has ever had it but I do. Believe me, I know what you are going through if you have had miscarriages and I really want you to ask your doctor to give you the test. I believe they call it the antiphospholipid test.... it's a simple blood test and they send it to a lab for testing and within a couple of weeks you should be able to get your results to tell if that could be the problem. If it is the problem then you will give yourself Lovenox shots which is a blood thinner in the sides of the stomach. It has worked for me! Please look into it.

PS I was diagnosed once with PCOS but had almost none of the common symptoms. I do not have PCOS. I do have a blood clot. If you have been told you don't fit the common symptoms of PCOS you may want to ask a specialist about being tested for a blood clot. They can occasionally cause you pain in similar region of the body.

Re: Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

Hi,
This is my first time on this site & I really appreciated you sharing your experience. I'm for sure going to demand the blood test. I've had 2 miscarriages in the last 8 months. My heart is broken but I'm determined to do what I can do find out what may be causing my multiple miscarriages. Did you have any other symtoms that had to do with the blood clot? Congratulations on your successful pregnancy. You help put hope back in me. Thank U!

Re: Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

My husband and I just found out last night that we've miscarried. This was our first pregnancy. We were only 6.5 weeks along, but we already saw and heard the heartbeat. How do you get past the feeling of hopelessness? Any idea when we'll be able to try again?

Re: Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

I'm new to this site, only because I've just had my 3rd miscarriage in the past year and I'm trying to look for some on-line help as to why. My first one, I made it to 12 weeks, my second one I made it to 6 weeks and this most recent one I made it to 9 weeks. I'm so devastated as my first pregnancy with my daughter was a breeze. We have no problems getting pregnant -- it always happens on the first try, but for some reason now, I can't seem to stay pregnant. I have an appointment with my OB and I'm going to make sure he recommends me to a specialist. For sure I will be asking for the blood test you mentioned as I don't know how many more times I can "Try" as each time I do, I worry so much that I'm going to miscarry again.

I have had three healthy

I have had three healthy pregnancies, and just had my 2nd miscarriage. I wish I knew what went wrong. It helps to read about other people that have gone throgh this. Its emotional and physically painful and hope I dont have to go thru this again. Not sure if I will try again. Mother-Of-3.

Thanks-Advice4You- on the

Thanks-Advice4You- on the clotting tip. I will ask my doc for the test. In 1 year I had a healthy baby with no problems in pregnancy and on Sunday just had our 2nd miscarriage at 8 weeks - after hearing the heartbeat and being told it all looked healthy and good. Devastated of course. Searching for reasons and aware there may not be ONE reason, but this is the second time I've heard of the clot issue - so i'm gonna follow up at my next appt. Meanwhile, walking the path of grief with you ladies and finding comfort in the Lord.

All though I don;t personally

All though I don;t personally know any of you wonderful women, I want to thank you because it helps me very much to know that I'm not alone in this. I have a handsome 20 month old son, but I had two consecutive miscarriages 4 months apart. With my first I just knew from day 1 that there were problems, even before my doc said so. But with my second, I was sooo sure it was going to be perfect, and then I lost the pregnancy at 8 weeks. I'm going to get genetic testing done to see if we can find the cause. Has anyone had this done? What does it consist of? It would be great to know.

And again thank you all!!

Re: Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

Hello,

This message is for TraciBenton... I hope the testing was successful and you are now pregnant. I am in a similar situation. I have had 2 miscarriages in the last 6 months. I am 38 years old. I have a lot of trouble with spotting before my period, sometimes it lasts 4 days before the actual period comes along. I'm wondering if this could be part of my problem. I have a meeting with a specialist on the 10th of March. It's the waiting that is killing me. It's so nice to hear everyone's stories.

I've had three miscarriages

I've had three miscarriages in a row and one standalone. The last one I had was last month at 4wks, then one at 8wks and 16wks. I'm now being tested for autoimmune disease to see if that's what's causing it. With all my pregnancies and my two children they started with lots of pain and bleeding. Luckily we are blessed with two healthy children but I would be lying if I said we didn't want another. I've just turned 41 so I'm getting really anxious.

I have had 2 miscarriages in

I have had 2 miscarriages in 5 months. One at 6 weeks the other at 4. I have a 20 month old son who was 6 weeks early with a PPROM at 30 weeks. I've now been referred to a Maternal Fetal specialist. It has been frustrating and above all else devastating. I appreciate everyone sharing their stories. Miscarriage can be such a lonely happening. Can anyone share tests or questions, that may or may not have been helpful in their quest to stay pregnant?

We have had 5 miscarriages in

We have had 5 miscarriages in the last 5 years. We found on Tuesday that we are pregnant again. Went to a specialist on Thursday and had a lot of blood test done. Hoping to find out some results next week.

Re: Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

Hello All,
I'm a new to this board, the only reason I was looking to join a forum is that i don't have anyone to talk to. I have my husband who is great, don't get me wrong, but its not the same talking to another woman, especially one going through the same thing.
So here's my story, I have one healthy beautiful little girl who is two, I started trying for my second November 2010, I got pregnant but lost it in December 10, tried again got pregnant in Feb 11 lost it in April got pregnant in April 11 and lost it in May; Mother's day. I mean come on whats wrong with me, i had one healthy child, why oh why is this happening to me. I want a sibling for my daughter, i don't want her to be growing up alone.
I am now waiting for a referral for a specialist. All this waiting sucks, waiting for bloodtest results, waiting for doctors, waiting to see if i will bleed while being pregnant.
I just feel so numb, and sad, what if i can never continue a pregnancy to full term. I pray and hope the specialist will help me. On an even worse note, doc wants me to not try and get pregnant for the next few months, till i heal, so i have to wait.
How do you make yourself stop thinking of the loss, everytime i look at my daughter i feel sad.
I should have started trying earlier but i wanted to lose the weight first, and now look what's that got me. I can't talk to anyone, I keep telling myself, some women have it worse than me and that i should be happy but its so hard. I pray and hope with all my heart that i will get pregnant in the next year or so.

Re: Causes of Recurrent Miscarriage

It feels so comforting to know their are others out there in the same situation. I am currently going through my second miscarriage. I lost my first pregnancy April 2010, and was emotionally devastated. I am currently going through my second and all the feelings of emptyness, loss, anger, frustration i experienced in my first miscarriage seem amplified this time around. I am healthy, in my 20's and have done everything your supposed to do during pregnancy (all the right foods, vitimins, water, excercise, sleep etc). I think the part that kills me the most is when i see soo many pregnant women out there smoking and drinking and doing everything wrong - but they get their babies and i dont get mine.

I dont really have a question or point really. Its just nice to be able to talk about it with people who understand. My husband tries to understand - but he doesnt really.
