It nice to see a website explain this. My son who is now for has lost over half of his small intestines because of this. He is currently fed through a G-tube and only eats that way. He is a true miracle.

This is what my Genevive passed away from at 16 days old, it progressed too quickly, and she couldn't handle all the trauma, she lost most of her bowel, and a second surgery 24 hours later showed the rest had died off. She passed away a few hours later. It really is a terrible disease.

This is what my son passed away from at 6 days old, I told the drs and nurses i didnt want him formula fed but they did it anyways and threw out my breast milk :( I hope they can do more research and find a way to prevent this or at least educate the hospital staff about the signs

interestingly enough, my mother died from this at age 59 years. it came out of the blue and took her with in two days of her gut starting to die off. i had never heard of it before and found that it is usually in preemies and very rare in adults. leave it to my mother to be unique!!
