Are babies more active before/during labor?

Since I'm so close to the finish of my first pregnancy, this question has popped into my head.
Is baby more active or less active as delivery approaches?
I know it's common for babies to be less active in the last few weeks, but I mean like a few days before delivery.

I'm 3 weeks away from being full term and my stomach could have stunt doubled for the belly burst scene in Aliens.
Little man is partying, and partying hard!

My baby who was born last week (Claire), was my 4th pregnancy. She was incredibly active even in labor. (in fact it hurt like CRAZY when she would stretch out and jam her head in my pelvis). When my water broke, she continued to move and thrash around. :)
