Bassinet Research

Hi everyone,

We are a couple of university students looking to obtain some information about the use of bassinets, whether you’re looking to purchase one or are currently using one, or even if your child has outgrown their bassinet and no longer use one! We are seeking to use the information we find to further our research direction in an attempt to better conceptualise a consumer friendly and ideal bassinet that will promote a better experience for both you and your child

Specifically we are hoping to acquire some information about some of the factors of your model of bassinet that you desire/own/owned, the benefits or shortcomings for you and just generally your experience with your product!

Feel free to share your experiences, praise, or rants, things you liked, disliked or wish existed !!!

anything you can tell us is great and we really appreciate you taking time to read and reply :smile:

Re: Bassinet Research

The Rock N Play is the only bassinet my daughter will use. We also have a traditional bassinet but she hates it. I think she likes sleeping on an incline and feeling snuggled in it. She wont sleep well on any flat surface. The Rock N Play meets all US bassinet safety standards, which is very important. Also I like that it's very portable because it folds up. I would never buy a frilly bassinet again, I didn't realize how quickly the baby outgrows them anyways. Some of them are only good til 20lbs, my baby is chunky so it couldn't be used for very long.

Also the Rock N Play is so easy to put together, sorry but assembly on the other bassinet was a PAIN!

Thanks for your feedback Neon - will be sure to do some more research on the Rock and Play, it looks like it has some interesting features...almost tempting to design an adult size rocking bassinet :p

out of curiosity do you think that the rocking motion helps put your child to sleep?

Part of our research is designed to look into the factors that contribute to the quality of sleep (as an infant)...

A couple more questions for you Neon -
Have you heard any incidents of infants suffocating whilst sleeping on an incline?

It seems as though the value for money is an important factor for you, aside child safety - do you feel that quality is justified through cost with regards to the models you've used? Obviously the bassinet is primarily just a more-portable cot, but what sort of uses would you like to see for it after it has served its 6 months purpose? To give you an example, there has been some conceptual models that serve as a play pen / desk top for infants once they have matured beyond the 6 months...would something like this be more appealing for yourself?

Ditto. My child refused to lay flat and the Rock n' Play Sleeper was the closest thing to a bassinet she would sleep in, so I don't intend to buy one, nor a play pen - though convertibility and products that grow with a child play a massive role in comparison shopping for me. I'm much more likely to go for a product I will get multiple uses out of.
