Bedtime fears - What are your kids afraid of?
Hi Mommas!
My son is just beginning to go through the phase of being afraid of things at bedtime. I'm just curious - what were/are your kids afraid of specifically? What gave them comfort? I've heard of everything from sharks to screaming banshees! :o |
Re: Bedtime fears - What are your kids afraid of?
She has to have her night light on but I think that's more because her sister wants it on too and she used to it more than it being a fear of the dark.

Allison has become afraid of the dark in the last few months. We have a night light that burns all night and a white noise/picture generator that is on for 30 minutes, until she's asleep.

Re: Bedtime fears - What are your kids afraid of?
My son is afraid of bugs and smoke detectors. He doesn't like loud noise so he is worried that it will hurt his ears. We decide, as we are leaving the room, what our "sweet dreams" (cookies, candies, ice cream, etc.) are going to be. This has helped him think of "sweet" things instead of the not nice things. He also has a night light that helps too.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Very helpful and it's amazing how it's across the board what our kiddos are afraid of.

So far Emersyn is good as far as bed & sleep go... no fears - yet
Gaby (5) is scared of the dark, on & off... but she's also started having bad dreams, and sometimes gets really upset before she goes to sleep, because she doesn't want the bad dreams |

my older son is afraid of the dark.. so we keep small light on through the night.
the youngest one is still not afraid of anything yet :) |
Re: Bedtime fears - What are your kids afraid of?
Mine use to be afraid of her clothes strangling her so she always wanted to take her clothes off. The only way I could make her believe that nothing would happen was to sleep with her so she could see that my clothes didn't do anything to me. It took us a while, but she came around.

Re: Bedtime fears - What are your kids afraid of?
My 4 year old son is afraid of the dark, but sometimes is brave enough.. it seems to come and go, well I guess it is sometimes his way to get attention... but sometimes he also show it off to his lil bro when the younger one acts like he is afraid and that their room has a ghost.

Re: Bedtime fears - What are your kids afraid of?
My son used to be afraid of sleeping with the lights off and sleep on his own crib. We co-sleeped with him until he was 8 months.
