My midwife came over for a home appointment today and tried to guess the weight of the baby. She guessed around 6 pounds. Granted I'm not huge but do you think that means it will be a while before I go into labor?
I haven't had many symptoms lately - fatigue, baby has been engaged for around 2 weeks, crazy bowel movements...

Oh, and my mother had both me and my brother a week early and my grandmother had my mom two weeks early.

Just trying to get an idea here. Any tips or advice?

Can't guess at all when you'll actually have the baby but the size definitely doesn't give any indication. I'm 38 1/2 weeks and I'd guess the baby is somewhere around 6 pounds at this point. My daughter was 6-11 a week overdue and my son was 6-6 5 days overdue (definitely sure of dates as we use NFP and the kids were all planned). Some full term + babies are just smaller than average.

ditto to everything Butter said. A better indicator, although not 100% either is the condition of your cervix. Is it soft? Effaced? Dilated? Do you know if it is anterior, mid or posterior? Basically, there really is no way to determine when labour may start though.. I have been 2 cm since Thursday

The last time they did an internal was two weeks ago and she told me that he was engaged, that my cervix was posterior but felt a little soft, and that I was really mushy inside (TMI) which I guess is also a good thing. :P

I was 4 cm and 100% effaced for 12 days with my second, and I was a fingertip dilated and 50% for 3 days before I had a 75 minute labor.

Relaly, thre's not a great indicator except for losing your plug with your first baby as to when youll go into labor. Generally you lose your plug when youre dilated to between 1 and 2 cm, and many first time moms do not dilated at all till just before baby comes.
