Dipping my toes is

Im 11 weeks along now, and starting to figure what exactly I want/need for my first baby's birth.

I always liked the idea of having a midwife... even before I saw "The Business of Being Born"... which kinda sealed the deal for me.

I live in a province where I can choose to have a GP (or OB) or a Midwife under our goverment health plan.

Ive been accpeted by a local Midwife group and now am just awating my first appointment to get the ball rolling.

I want a homebirth, ideally a water birth. But I suppose I will be ok with delivering in the hospital with my midwife present. Im not sure the set up yet at the hospital I would most likley be deliverying at.

How did everyone decide if they wanted to go with a waterbirth or not?

:waves: congrats!!

For me you always have the option of delivering out of water but not vice versa. So pick a place where you have the option of delivering in the pool if you want and if you don't feel like it just deliver on land, lol

The birth center I went to had two rooms for delivery and both rooms had a massive birthing pool/hot tub like setup. It was always an option, and I just imagined being in the water to be a lot more relaxing and comfortable than lying in a bed.

I agree about trying to keep it as an option just in case.

If I do a homebirth, I can definitly set up a pool. In either our living room or our middle/enterence room.

I have heard its more relaxing in the pool at times.

The OB that oversees my midwife group called it an "aquadural" haha

Welcome! I'm Melissa and I had my daughter at home in February. I was planning a water birth but ended up not liking the birth pool so she was a land birth lol. I know most women find laboring in water to be very relaxing so I'm not sure why I didn't. I'm torn as to whether I want to fool with the birth pool for my next birth. We already have it so I guess it doesn't hurt to set it up just in case I wan to try it again.
