prostaglandin gel induction

Hi guys,

Some of you may remember my history of PPH... especially bad after having a 10 lb 9 oz baby which ended in a transfusion. I am 40 weeks tomorrow and stressed out, being offered Prepidil gel which is a prostaglandin. I can have it inserted at the birth center and then get a NST, and then I can go home to wait it out.

I'm on the fence. Do you think I should do it? I am so nervous about having another very large baby for the sake of my uterus, but I am also scared of this sort of artificial help.

Any ideas would be appreciated. :)

It's hard to say. I totally understand why you would want to do it. Sometimes fear of "what might happen" can be detrimental on a birth and if something as simple as this gel can help you get over that, then I am a proponent for it. You've been around this board for a while. I know that you are well aware of all of the risks of induction. But they do have their place in time. I think that if it will help you avoid csection and/or blood problems, then it's a good option. It does set the stage for a more medically managed labor than normal, but you still have the opportunity for a beautiful birth. I think the best thing you can do is look at what will be the best decision for you and baby both and go with that. I wish I could give you more insight, but this is one of those things you have to decide from your gut. Let us know what you end up doing! I'll be thinking of you!

Well I woke up and started having contractions that haven't let up, so it looks like baby time is happening on its own!
