My name is Brittany and I got a very faint positive today which means baby #3 is on the way. I would like this pregnancy and birth to be as holistic as possible, but is that possible being high-risk? I had gestational hypertension with both of my previous pregnancies and already suffer from pre-hypertension now. Everyone on my Mom's side suffers from hypertension. Any suggestions?

Re: Hi
My biggest suggestion would be to interview many different care providers (mainly midwives) and find someone who works heavily in preventative care. Leaving the medical model of care might make the biggest difference. Try to find someone who uses the term "high risk" very conservatively.

Re: Hi
Thanks! I have a consultation with a midwife next week at a birthing center and it sounds promising :)

Re: Hi
Welcome and congratulations! I agree that your medical provider is going to dictate a lot. Each Dr and midwife has their own level of comfort in handling "high-risk" cases so take your time and make sure you find one that is on the same page. I hope the consultation goes well!

Re: Hi
I had two high risk pregnancies before moving to a midwife. They are great with preventative care and my last birth was natural in a birth center :) I'm going to the same place again. It's totally doable, might even help you prevent hypertension if you find the right midwife :)
