"Full term"

I noticed the other day that my ticker said I had 8 days left. I thought surely it must just be some glitch, lilypie is prone to those. Now it is a new week though, and it says 6 days. I'm a little annoyed by this. I'm only 37 weeks! Last I knew, babies were supposed to go to 40-42 weeks. I have no real reason to gripe about it, it is just so obviously a symptom of a culture that holds to the belief that babies only need to go to 37/38 weeks. Apparently letting babies develop fully is just not that important. What is the deal?!

Hmmm. That seems glitchy, I am pretty sure it usually will count down to the date you entered as your due date. It's saying only 6 days. Weird.

I think it does go two ways though. I always feel "guilty" when I see those posters in the doctors office and when people ask or comment on my babies being "early." I wish everyone just realized that gestation is personal to the mom and baby and that anywhere within a 5 week window (37-42 weeks) is competely normal. No reason to rush them out or do a count down to a specific date. It's certainly not an exact science!

Huh must be a glitch. I can't imagine the clicker thinking 38 weeks was D day.

I'm a 42 weeker. I don't even start thinking baby until 40 weeks. Honestly to me 40 weeks is full term.

Every woman is so different! I've known women who always had their babies (naturally) at 36 weeks and they were a good size and very healthy, and others who always went over 42 weeks and again, good size (not too big), covered in vernix, and the placenta looked great! That's part of why ANY induction without true medical necessity makes me nervous. How do these Dr's know whether or not this baby is going to be fully developed at 36 or 42 weeks? To assume they are "ready" just because of a date on the calender is pretty risky business, imo... :sneak:

That being said - I totally hear you!! And yes, I'd have to agree that most people these days seem to *expect* a baby by 38/39 weeks. Heaven forbid they make it to their due date, or worse - Go over!! Such a terrible injustice! :sarcasm:

BTW - since we are due so close, I've noticed your ticker has always had a smaller number of days remaining than mine. No clue why that would be since we both use lilypie :what:
