OT: Anyone know anything about a decidual cast? (gross story alert)

I actually had a miscarriage last Tues at about 10 weeks :( and have been bleeding ever since. (I totally understand if some don't want to read about a miscarriage so feel free to not read further!)

I won't give you all the details about the m/c but like I said, I have been bleeding ever since which I understand is normal. I have passed a ton of big clots and been aching, etc, as well. Today the bleeding eased way up and I was hopeful that I was getting past the clots and aching and uterine soreness.

Then an hour or so ago I felt like another clot was going to pass, so I went to the bathroom and stood over the toilet. It felt like it was right there so I didn't get why it wasn't coming out right away. The feeling got a little stronger and it felt like it was right in my vagina so I thought, geez, this must be a big one. I ended up kind of pushing it out and I was holding a piece of toilet paper down there as I was pushing. I could see this clot-looking thing get bigger and bigger until it was taking up my whole vagina and I was thinking WHAT THE HECK. Then the whole thing suddenly plopped out in my hand (on the toilet paper I was holding) and it was like the size of my fist! I shrieked when it came out and yelled "what the!!" I think, lol. I quickly found an empty baby wipes box and put it in there. As I looked at it I realized it looked like about the size and shape of my uterus!! It is wider and thicker toward the top and narrower toward the bottom, like the shape of a pear. It is mostly very dark red like a clot with some other tissue-ish looking stuff on it. I imagine this "thing" was taking up the entire inside of my uterus. What on EARTH. I called the doctor just to tell her and make sure this was.. uh.. "normal" and that I was OK, especially since the miscarriage was technically on Tues and now it's Friday. She said it can happen sometimes and she was more concerned about how much I was bleeding and as long as I'm not soaking a pad an hour she's not concerned. I told her the weird thing was it looks almost like a mold of the inside of my uterus because of the size and shape. She said there is something called a decidual cast and that may well be what it is. Weird! I've never heard of it but I googled it. I can't find too much actual info yet, but that is strange!

(So freakin glad I wasn't walking around Walmart or something!! I've been debating about going into a store for just a minute.)

However, after this giant thing came out, if it IS basically the entirety of my decidua (the lining of my uterus) that came out at one time, I am hopeful that the bleeding will tame way down and the cramping will stop and I will feel normal-ish soon. I hope.

I just thought you all who are interested in female stuff might have heard of it or can point me to a link. I am really curious as to what a decidual cast is and how it forms.

Yes, I've heard of it - but never actually heard of someone passing the entire thing like that! Kind of neat, in a gross way. The Wikipedia explanation of it is actually pretty good.

Yeah, it is neat in a gross way. It is hideous, but I hate to throw it out! It seems like some scientist somewhere would like to have a look at it, or it could be picture in doctor's text book as Figure 1.3! And I can't find my camera of all days. lol

Too bad you can't find your camera. This fertility nerd/nurse wants to see it! LOL!

lol I'm with Shawna, now I want to see it!!

I've never even heard of this before, but I can only imagine that it probably hurt a lot to pass something that large!! I passed almost everything from one of my M/C's at once, but it wasn't much larger than a golf ball total!

I already tied the wipes box off in a plastic bag and put it in the garbage but so help me if I find my camera soon I will dig it out, lol.

Well I am up at 2:40 am because I have a new weird symptom: cold vagina and vulva. Yeah, seriously. I would feel like an idiot calling the doctor and saying that, but I woke up in bed and was laying there trying to figure out why on earth I have this cold sensation ONLY in my vagina/vulva. It's like someone is holding an ice pack down there. Maybe through my clothes because on the skin that would be very freezing, but you get the idea. My thighs right beside there are not cold, up by my pubic bone is not cold, but my vagina/vulva feels distinctly cold. What on earth??

I have tried googling it but just get a lot of weird s*x questions mostly. Could this be a sign of too much blood loss? A blood supply issue? A nerve thing? Infection symptom? I have no clue. The bleeding has actually slowed WAY, way down suddenly by an hour or so after I passed the decidual cast thing. Maybe I'm running out of blood... j/k

I sure hope it goes away so I don't have to worry about it all night or consider actually calling the doctor and sounding like a total wackadoo.

Is it too much to think someone might have some idea why my vagina feels cold? LOL

Well, thanks for nuthin. :p j/k

But FYI my my cold sensation went away eventually. No idea what that was about but glad it's gone so I'm not going to worry about it unless it comes back.

So weird! I've never heard of anything like that before. I used to get huge clots during AF (one time the size of a baseball), but nothing that big, and mine is because I have adenomyosis.

I don't know about a cold vagina, either, but are you taking iron just in case? I know cold extremities can be a sign of anemia, so perhaps a cold vagina is too?

LOL Yeah, maybe I have cold vagina anemia. I thought of the same thing, though! It just sounds funny. wow. Only me. I was taking vitamins. I should start up again. Thankfully it went away, though, so that's good!! It did coincide with my last day of heavy bleeding, and then my bleeding slowed way down and so did the weird cold feeling. Phew
