Update and still confused :(

So fluid was low then normal then low then normal .. Went to weekly ultrasounds last week fluids where 5.5 low and today it's 9.5... Normal is 10. They said she is small about 2weeks behind.. But she normal in the sense everything is normal kidneys heart everything she's just small.. They just don't know why my fluid is up and down and why she's small..:( I'm confused scared and tired of going to specialist Ob and hospitals for ultrasounds each week..also doc said if fluid keeps going up and down I won't make it to nov. also I have barely passed 3 hr glucose so I will repeat that at 29 weeks.:( hey at least all I have to buy for her is emergency bottles ( I'm breast feeding just like to have a couple just in case) thanks for reading I just needed to vent :(

That's good if its going up! Having her measure small shouldn't be a problem. Most of my babies have. What's important is steady growth. A baby that suddenly stops growing or drastically slows down can be an issue requiring an induction. My twins have consistently measured small, but steady. I've had two kids under the 5%, so they come by it genetically.

Thank you she's in the 30 th right now and they won't be concerned till she's close to the 10 th%... It's just all new to me. Both my boys I had normal pregnancy except for my second boy that was early 32 weeks cuz I had high blood pressure

It may only add to the questions, but here's a good summary of the current research on AFI and its variations:

Amniotic Fluid Volume: too much, too little, or who knows? | MidwifeThinking

Effect of 1 week of oral hydration on the amnio... [J Reprod Med. 2003] - PubMed - NCBI

I was induced for low AFI (4 at my ob visit, and less than 1 when I went in to consider the induction), but for me, I'm not sure it was necessary. However, that was at full term with a well-growing baby.

I also read another article (primary research) that showed that measurement of AFI could vary by a few cm depending on the technician who took the reading and position of the baby. So, a different baby position PLUS difference in hydration could account for a 4 cm difference reading.

Regardless, that's still a low AFI for someone who isn't about to give birth. Since hydration alone can increase AFI by 3 cm, I would hydrate like CRAZY everyday. Good luck!

I think my twins are less than 10%, but growing steady. 3 out of 4 of mine have measured the same. Only my 98% kid measured average in utero. My tall kids didn't get that way until after birth. I tend to grow smaller size kids and then their genetics take over. Consistent growth is what's important!!!

It's hard to get an accurate assessment of weight by u/s. as long as all the organs are working properly, I wouldn't stress over size. Sorry you have been having trouble with the fluid, but it's good to hear they are watching it closely!
