Layers?

Nicole comment on the ugly paper post about cutting out the center reminded me of a ? I have wanted to know.....

Do you just layer everything or do you cut out and keep scraps of things that are going to be covered by another piece of paper.......Just how thrifty are you?

Re: Layers?

A long time ago when I lived in scrap.paradise I just layered everything. Now I am more conservative because I don't have the money or availability that I once did. Seriously in Phoenix there was a scrapbooking store on every corner. Now I have to drive an hour or shop.on line.

For doing an edge like on the ugly paper I usually cut a 1 inch frame and lay the next layer over it, or I cut four strips and glue them on the piece that is the middle. Nice edge fast between one and four once a of paper and voila frugal.

I also use the white paper in the album's as a base when I am doing lots of pieces.

I cut out the center when I'm doing big pieces too, even cut out the centers when I'm matting pics if it's a paper I really like.

I'll also cut a 1 inch frame (cutting out the center of the paper) if I am making a border. If I really really like the paper I will cut the center out of smaller stuff, but that isn't very often.

Re: Layers?

Nope. lol that takes way too much work.

I never put a paper I really like on the bottom. That's what I buy plain cardstock packs for. I also like the stability it gives the pages.

I just layer. Since I make a lot of cards I usually have lots of cut paper already

Re: Layers?

Today I made a page that had a thin piece of a dark brown and I cut out the middle cause I didn't want to waste so much.

Re: Layers?

Here is a an example of layering that only used two sheet of 12x12 double sided paper. The red dot is the back side of the base paper and the candy cane pibk is the back side of the striped paper. I love it when a page works out like this because then i don't feel so waistful. I have a double page layout from back in the day that used 10 sheets of paper because everything is layered instead of faked. Any way Tiffany as you get more experience and more paper you love your become more confident on this too.

Here is a an old old page that I made a slide show of, click the link.It is actually about taping the base sheets together to cross the crack and then using an exacto knife to cut them apart.

Re: Layers?

cute page Nicole! Did you cut a chunk out of the center of the bottom layer and then flip it to use up top?
