My supply is decreasing need advice.
I had my 25 week micropreemie in August 2012. I pumped the entire time she was in the NICU, from August until December 5th 2012. My milk supply was great while she was in the NICU. Then I get her home a couple weeks ago and begin to breast feed and bottle feed expressed milk. Now when I go to pump my milk supply is half of what it used to be. I have nearly switched her over to full breast feeds. I am worried though that my supply is going to run out. She is showing all signs of being fed enough, good poops, every diaper is wet, eats 7-8 (+/-) in 24 hours. She sleeps well between feedings. I don't know if I should take measures to increase my supply or if this adjustment is okay?
Has anyone else pumped for 4 months then went almost exclusively to breast feeding and had a decrease in milk?
Re: My supply is decreasing need advice.
As long as she's seemingly full, nursing normally, having enough wet diapers, the adjustment is normal. What makes you think that you've had a decrease in supply other than the pumping dropping?
You have to remember, nursing is much more effective than pumping. So really, when you pump, you may not be getting what you used to because she's nursing you down more. To me, from what you said, it sounds like your supply is just fine. :)
