Extended rear facing

Are you or did you do extended rear facing (past 1 year)?
Will you with your next child (if you have more)?
Would you have done it before if you had known the safety reasons behind it?

Are you or did you do extended rear facing (past 1 year)? Erin got turned on her birthday, Patrick made it to 14 months.
Will you with your next child (if you have more)? It totally depends on her.
Would you have done it before if you had known the safety reasons behind it? Well, my kids don't do well rearfacing that long. It gets to the point where they're such a distraction to *me* as the driver, which is a worse safety hazard in my mind. Allison will rear face as long as I still feel like I'm a safe driver. With Erin I drove with that hazard for 3 months before she turned 1 and I could turn her.

Re: Extended rear facing

We extended rear-face. DH is a cop, we definitely know the safety reasons! Cori, who turns 5 tomorrow, just turned around about 2 months ago. She still hasn't reached the 40 pound weight limit, but she finally reached the height limit. Obviously, she is pretty short :) Juliana is nearly 26 months and I'm sure she'll still be rear-facing for a couple of years. We don't ever give them a choice, they don't know different. Actually, we travel a lot and have found that they sleep better on long drives when rear-facing because they are much more reclined.

Re: Extended rear facing

We flipped Savannah around 15 months after consultation with her pedi...ideally I would have left her rear facing longer but she was already almost as large as average 2 year old (as was w/in 2 lbs of the weight limit rear facing on our carseat), but she hated driving so much rear facing that she would go into hysterics every time we tried to put her in carseat.

Assuming we have another, I'd again try to leave him/her rear facing as long as possible...but would make same decision to flip forward if we face similar situation as we did with Savannah.

I turned Thea when she was about 2 years 3 months old. Her long legs were starting to get where she would complain about them hurting. She loves forward facing b/c she can see out the window better. But I would not have turned her any sooner than 2 years and won't if we have another child.

We turned Linda at 1, we were so excited for the milestone. I had no idea about the safety with rear facing. Jeremy got turned about 14-16 months and that was because DH didn't like him rear facing :(. I plan to have this baby rear facing as long as possible. Hope to get to age 2 at least.

We turned Aiden at 1 and 20. At the time I wasn't on JM and had never heard of ERF. Maryella is 3 and is still rear-facing. I'm not sure when we'll turn her. We'll ERF with the twins too.
