8 more weeks (O/T)

Until I see my son graduate boot camp.........It was one week ago today that I heard his voice for 2min on the phone before he was sent off to his base. I have recieved 2 letters so far, and they mean the world to me. I just got his address yesterday to write back and plan to do so today.

His girlfriend has been spending alot of time with me, ALOT OF TIME, lol.......She is a sweet girl, and we have had many long talks. She does not have alot of friends and works part time at a Vet clinic, so she spends her free time with me now, helping me around the house with cleaning projects. We started the first one last week, Mikey's bedroom..........5 trash bags of garbage and 3 bags of clothes for the good will. Good God, he was a slob. 36 empty pop cans, 8 glasses and tons of forks and spoons all around his bedroom, 8 loads of laundry...... I never invaded his privacy, but I might just change that for the other 5 kids, lol.......

Its gonna be hard on me if he comes home and breaks up with her, Im afraid of getting to close and then I will have to let go of the relationship. She's only 17 and comes from a great family, she has been raised wonderfully. He tried to break up with her before he left, cause he did not want her to wait for him. He was so emotional about it and I talked him into just waiting things out and see where life takes them.........maybe I should not of medeled, but he was so upset and I did not want him to leave like that. Hoping that I dont become the MIL who gives out tooooo much advice, lol.......but she is just so darn sweet!!

I will tell you from personal experience on the boot camper side :) he will be a changed man when he gets home. So don't be surprised that even if it doesn't happen right away he might break up with her :(. Course it could go the other way too LOL. Sometimes they grow up and realize what they have and don't let it go. I just know boot camp changes you in some fashion. I was a different girl when I returned from boot camp. And as I grew in the military it has changed me more. I am so glad you can write him. That will help him get through it.

Jess, he was able to call his dad the second day in and thank god it was him and not me........he was very emotional his father told me. I know they tare him down emotionally and physically those first few weeks, and he was terribly home sick. This is the part that breaks my heart as a mother. But I know he will gain so much from this experience. Mikey needed to take responsibility and grow up a little, and his deep, deep, deep views on politics needs to be addressed. He has been apart of many groups over the years and formed way too many opinions in my eyes on the politics of America, some good, some not so good. Hopefully this eperience will open his eyes to more broader views and get him to accept that their is more good than bad.

I found a journal that Mike was keeping since last year, and his thoughts and opinions on life all evolved around politics........wich I find very odd for a 17/18 yr old to wright about in a book. It was difficult for me to read it, and I pray that he gains alot from this experience and comes home with a brighter outlook on life.

I know he will not be the boy I watched leave me, but a man when he returns, and I will cry like a baby for sure. I just want him safe and want to hear his voice when I WANT TO.
