2013/recent experiences with NIPT (non invasive prenatal testing) in first trimester

What has been your experiences with NIPT? The free cell DNA blood test often done in first trimester?
Was it automatically ordered due to AMA? Was it covered by insurance? Did you have to see a specialist? Do you know specifically which test you had? Harmony? Panorama? Other?

What week did they do the blood test?

Thanks for sharing!!!!

My doctor had me do the MaterniT21 test. My doctor just automatically had me do it because I'm 35. I was 11 weeks and 1 day when the test was performed. It was a simple blood test on me that tested for chromosome abnormalities and it also reveals the gender. We don't have maternity coverage, so I don't know if the average insurance policy would have covered it or not. I got the results back in 8 business days and everything looks great! OH, and we're having a GIRL!

I had the Harmony test (which is like the Materni21 - but they will not tell you gender). Simple blood test. You receive the results in 10 days. The doc recommended it since I was 39. The test said our chances of trisomy were 1 in 10,000. We just had a healthy baby girl June 8 :p I would recommend this test - but not the quad screen. The quad screen is not as scientific and causes worry. This test is like 99.5% accurate.

I just got good results back from the Harmony NIPT test!!! It was done at 10 weeks, 1 day, and I got the results back a week later. I have Kaiser HMO, so I didn't have to pay for it. At this time, Kaiser only offers it to women over 35 and those with a prior history of genetic abnormalities, as I understand it.
